Ideas for day trips from Leitrim

Hi Michele and the forum members-

We (family of 4)will be in Ireland June 14 to June 25 in/out of Dublin. This our second trip, first was in 2006.

The first week we are staying in Dromahair Co Leitrim in a self catering cottage. Then two days in Dublin ,and two days south of Dublin.

We are looking for ideas of day trips from this area.A two to three hour limit each way is fine (my  husband actually likes driving in Ireland). We will be doing an over night B&B trip to see the giants causeway and the other sights in the far north during our S/C week.

We do have family in Dowra and My husbands Aunt has just moved from Sligo into a nursing home in Dromahair. So some of our time will be visiting with family and friends of family.

We would like to see
                   Derry
                   Donegal
                   Westport (maybe)

Our time in Dubln is figured out and the two days south are as well .

Powerscourt/Glendalough
Killkenny

Thank you
Susan

Susan,

You will be nearby Sligo which is very beautiful with the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. Some things to see in the area are:

Parke's Castle
Lough Gill Drive
Rosses Point
Knocknarea (if you like climbing)

You are not far from Fermanagh

Belleek China
Enniskillen
Marble Arch Cave
Florence Court
Boa Island

North of Sligo is a beautiful beach at Rossknowlagh. Donegal town and castle are north of that.

You might even find your way down to Castlebar and the Museum of Counrty Life and vibrant Westport town. West of Westport is Achill Island.

That should give you plenty to do in the area.
