Here's what I'm thinking so far....any and all suggestions are welcome. We are still very flexible on this
Nov 3...arrive Dublin. Drive to Glendalough/Wicklow region. One or two nights? Powerscourt, Wicklow Gap....do some driving/ walking
Wicklow to Cashel one night Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle
The next leg, I'm thinking something central to Kerry area(any suggestions?) , possibly spending 3 nights. Ring of Kerry, Dingle Pen. etc
Then north to Doolin , 2 nights Cliffs of Moher, Loop Head
County Galway...possibly Clifden area 1 night
Then back to Dublin for 2 nights...Fly back home on the 16th
Any place we go, we will be open to some hikes, bike rides....all of this weather permitting of course. We're pretty active.
Like I said, this is all just very sketchy right now. Number of nights/ or actual areas might change . I would really appreciate any input. Just trying to get a general plan together. Thanks Scott
Hi Scott--my thoughts are bouncing between the areas you are mentioning, but.......While in Clifden the Buttermilk Inn is an excellent B&B ----www.buttermilklodge.com. Off the Square is a good good place for lunch www.offthesquarebistro.com and while at the Cliffs of Moher there is a very neat gift shop called the Rock Shop www.therockshop.ie When you are at the Cliffs and may need a B&B www.conneelysbedandbreakfast.com VERY nice owners, and for a nice yummy dinner -- http://www.kinvara.com/eatpierhead.html is excellent. When you go to Cahir Castle there is a very good restaurant riverhousecahir@eircom.net Also which in Roundstone a good place to shop and walk the water front is Roundstone Ceramics and right next to it is Roundstone Music, Crafts, & Fashion where Malachy Kearns drum shop is -- you can't go into the working area, but can observe the workings www.bodhran.com Hope this helps somewhat. We, obviously, don't know much about hiking very much. Have a good trip! Youngka

Scott, The place to eat near the Cliffs and Conneelys B&B isn't Pierhead -- sorry, it is http://www.kinvara.com/keoghs/index.html. They have wonderful lamb dishes & crab cakes with a bay view. I didn't realize that the address I gave for Riverhouse place near the castle is an email address. I have written to see if they have a web site. In case they don't, still try it if you get hungry, it is an excellent place to eat. Youngka

Since it is your first day when you will be in Co. Wicklow and you also want to do hiking, I suggest two nights there.
If you want to do Clifden/Connemara you would be better off with one night in Doolin and two in Galway or Clifden. It is hardly worthwhile spending only one night there. Or you could skip it entirely and spend a night in Dingle or elsewhere.
Central Co. Kerry is Killarney. You can do many day trips from there.
Thanks for the info....youngka, I'll have to check out those sites.
Michele....we might go ahead and switch the Doolin and Clifden stays like you suggested. The Connmerra region interests me quite a bit.
I was thinking about spending the 3 nights in Dingle, instead of Killarney, but leaning toward Killarney because of its central location. I realize some things would be closer by staying in Dingle, but how far of a drive is it from Dingle to Killarney? From what Ive seen so far, if it doesnt work out too bad geographicaly, I'd rather stay in Dingle.
On my eight trips to Ireland, I've never spent a night in Doolin. It's a nice green spot in the road with a few pubs. You could view the Cliffs and The Burren on your drive to or from County Galway. I love the Connemara area, it's more remote, not over crowded, and the scenery is lovely. Now, Dingle is my favorite place in Ireland. You have those wonderful green fields, sea cliffs, beaches, mountains, and a nice little town. Killarney has very pretty lake scenery but is crowded. Close by is Kenmare which is a lovely small town and you could do Beara Pen. from there and the Ring if you are interested. But it would be pushing it to do Dingle and back from one of those towns. You could do it but it would be a lot of driving. If it were me, I'd settle in a couple of places and take my time, relax and have time for a chat or two. Say Connemara and one of the places in Kerry.
Be sure to check out the accommodations that Michele recommends. The rest of us have our favorites which we'll be happy to tell you about, but Michele has never steered me wrong.
