Killimer-Tarbert ferry?

Dear Michele -

Just found your web-site and it's great!  Wish I had found it sooner as we are leaving in a few weeks to visit our daughter who is living near Kinsale since last September.  This is our second trip there but the first time she wasn't living there and we also had 100 high school kids along who marched in the Dublin St. Patrick's Day Parade!  We are concentrating on the west/southwest coast from the music festival at Ennis (Fleadh Nua) to Kinsale.  I have a question - we will be going from the Cliffs of Moher to Dingle in one day.  About how long does it take by car and if we take the ferry over the Shannon Estuary (Killimer-Tarbert), does it save a lot of time?  Thanks again!

Kat,

The ferry takes approximately 20 minutes and is a great opportunity to get out of the car and stretch. It shaves about 80 - 85 miles off the trip and will set you up quite nicely when traveling from the Cliffs to Dingle.

Slan Beo,

Bit

Kat,

When I travelled from near Doolin to Dingle using the ferry, it took us about 4 hours. We had to wait about 1/2 hour for the ferry. So you could say from 3 to 4 hrs. It was a very easy trip and we enjoyed it.

Have a wonderful trip, Joan

Much like Bit, I enjoyed the pause from driving for a half an hour where I was able to get out on the ferry, go on top of the deck, and just enjoy the scenery. Does save a lot of miles and is quite fun if you haven't done it before.

We just used the ferry and I just happened be to pinned in and could not get out of the car.  Try and get in the middle row, altho it depends on how you are loaded.  I guess I could have tried to climb over the stick shift, but just stayed in car and gave friend camera to take pics.  Was only about 20 minutes anyway
