we are 6 adults on our first trip to Ireland. in planning our trip we have received conflicting advice on whether to experience the jaunting carts (near Muckross house ,i assume) . some tell us that it's too expensive ,others say it's a great experience. can i ask you (any and all ) for your experienced opinion? also i can't seem to find a rate /fee for this experience - many thanks
Calvo, I think this is one of those "you can't make up your mind until you're there" questions. As you've pointed out, folks seem to be fairly evenly divided between the yeas and neas on this one. My party contented ourselves with a Lake tour and the stop at Inis Fallen, and we were very happy with the choice. You may feel the same, or you might decide that a cart ride would really enhance your experience of the Old Sod. Why not head to Ross Castle and Muckross House with your plans loose and see what you feel like at the time? The Killarney area is lush with things to do and see; you can't see it all at one shot, so enjoy what you can and don't worry about the rest. WC
I have done the jaunting cars a few times and enjoyed it. There is no "set price". You have to bargain with the drivers. It should run around 40 euro. With 6 people that is not much. They will take you all around Muckross Estate, Torc Waterfall, Muckross Abbey, Killarney National Park. They go to places cars cannot, however you can walk to the various places too.
I like WC's advice to just wait and see how you feel.
