Hi, My husband and I may be planning a trip to Ireland from October 24-Nov 1st. I am reading that the weather will be chilly and dark. Neither of us have been to Ireland before and we are visitng because my husband wants to move there but since we never been I want to visit before we make that decision. Part of me thinks its good to come when the weather is not the best, so we can see that side too.
Would you suggest waiting and coming in the spring summer? When you say that there isnt much daylight, do you meant its dark for all but a few hours so is it like dusk? Pitch black?
Any info or ideas you have would be very helpful! Amy
The weather is a coin toss, no matter the season. This year has been quite wet for most of the summer, for example. Average temperature in that time frame is in teh Mid 50's for a high and the upper 30's for a low. That is if the weather conditions are mild. If it is blustery and wet, then the temperatures will be considerably lower. Everything balances on the weather, you see.
You are looking at a sunrise time of around half past seven and nightfall somewhere between half past five and 6 o'clock. Depending on cloud cover and lunar cycle, this could mean that it will be quite dark by seven or eight. Alot also depends up on what area you are looking to visit.
You say that your husband is looking to relocate to Ireland. I would suggest taking a serious look at the economics and job availability. I have friends who relocated to Ireland and returned again to the States within 4 months due to lack of available employment. Both have dual citizenship.
As for the best time to visit Ireland, I would have to say it is between the beginning of May to late September, with the ideal months being May & June. You will still have your weather flux. What you won't have is huge tourist crowds and limited daylight.
Whenever you decide to make your trip, we will be glad to help you make it special.
Toward the end of Oct Ireland goes on Daylight Savings Time. I have been there at that time of year and to me it seemed that it was dusk around 4:30. But you will certainly have plenty of daylight between sunrise and sunset. Take a look at my Weather page to look at sunrise/sunset times and click on any of the boxes around the map to learn the weather history of any month.
If you are planning to relocate, then I think it wise to see Ireland when it is not at its best.
The way the weather is this year, anything can happen. We can get "pet days" any time of the year also.
Please, take great thought before relocating also, as I am sure you will. The culture differences between Ireland and the US are far greater than most can imagine.
It is a huge step and will take years to acclimatise.
We know this from those who have done this. And from our own Sisters also coming in from Canada.
Also when the Methodist Church sends ministers and their wives over here, they limit their stay to 2 or 3 years for that reason.
The weather is relatively easy to adapt to. But the way of life is another matter altogether. It looks great as a visitor, but then you see little really...
