North Dublin/Swords/Malahide??

Hello all

OK.....now were thinking....last 3 nights B&B on the north side of Dublin.  Using it as a base for Newgrange and Dublin City.  Someplace with public transportation to Dublin center and also to the airport. Ive read that Swords is about 25 min away from the city center.  Would like to be a little closer if possible, any areas that you would suggest to search in?

Thanks
Scott

Scott,

If you stay on the northside I suggest you keep your car and return it on departure. You will need it to go out to dinner, etc. I really like Malahide village. It is upscale, small, near the ocean, has good restaurants, etc. You can get DART or a bus into the city center. I would not take public transportation to the airport from there. It is my number one choice.

Michele,

I'm not too concerned about dropping off the car...we figure that we'll be in the city center area for dinner, etc. Thought we would have maybe a little nicer accomodations, and for a little less cost staying a bit outside the center. I know we might have a bit of a commute back and forth, but that sounds like fun too.

As far as the airport issue.....do you not reccommend public transprotation because of the luggage issue? I assume it would be possible to take a taxi from Malahide or Swords area? If so, what do you think would be the cost? It seems that they are relatively close to the airport.

Thanks
Scott

Scott,

Many of the B&Bs in Malahide are not right near town. I suggested keeping the car so that you would not be stuck at the B&B if you found you wanted to go out.

If you want to ditch the car, another good option would be Ballsbridge. Bewley's Ballsbridge Hotel has a good room rate that is comparable to a B&B in Malahide. This way you would be much closer to the city center and can walk or take bus or Luas into the city center.
