Just got back from 27 days in Ireland. Yesterday at 1:30 pm we approached Dublin on the N7 and M7 from the west. The construction and traffic are horrendous. Road markings are minimal. If you plan on getting on the M50 get in the left lane.
The M50 is now down to 2 lanes. The lanes are extra narrow and full of buses and huge trucks. You have just a few inches of clearance between you, the construction barricades and the car or truck next to you. Be extremely careful. Next time I plan on taking rural roads and going way out of my way to avoid the total mess. It will take less time and be less stressful.
Hi Michele! Sure hope they find your suitcase.......Know you had a wonderful time each and every day.....and----hope the weather was mostly good. I knew there was a reason we go into Shannon. Also, glad from what others have written about Dublin...... Welcome home! Youngka

Sounds like the M50 has gotten even worse than it was this summer...and I was no happy camper then. I was lucky though, it was a Sunday morning and even with the light traffic it was busy and cramped.
We just experienced the exact same thing in late September! The M50 really is a mess right now, and so is Dublin Airport. I doubt if I'll be making a return trip to that corner of the country. Delta also lost my father's luggage, but it was delivered to him five days later to our house. Hopefully it doesn't take too long for them to find yours!
Everytime I think about flying into Dublin I see something like this posted. Wow -- it sounds like a real mess. I think I will stick with Shannon when possible, as it appears the M50 is terrible to deal with.
Thanks all for your welcome home! The first part of my trip had wonderful weather. I think those 10 days were the Irish summer everyone missed because of the deluges in June - Aug. Then it got cold and blustery and then moderated to typical cool, showery autumn weather with a few nice days thrown in. The trees were just changing when I left.
If you remember I complained about finding the car rental returns in the spring at Dublin Airport. Well, they have changed the entire road network around and through the airport yet again. By following the car rental signs we ended up at the repair depots of the car rental companies. Following the instructions of the person working there it only took another half hour of driving in circles (and asking a road construction worker) where to find the rental return lots. I think it is a shell game of "hide the car rental lots from tourists". If you are returning to Dublin give yourself extra time for the maze. The road system through the airport had changed from my arrival to my departure. What a difference 27 days makes. They had plenty of time to move all those barricades and cones to a new configuration.
I will be callilng Delta once the Dublin flight gets in this afternoon in search of my lost bag. If it doesn't show up I can always buy new clothes but I will really miss my travel alarm with built in flashlight and all those brochures I brought back from Ireland.
Michele, I am just browsing tonight and saw you got your suitcase back! GOOD. I know what you mean about the brochures, it is so much fun gathering them. Youngka
