Thank you for providing this exceptional forum with such professional advise.
Can you please give me you opinion on my Itinerary. It has been an overwhelming task!
We received a tremendous offer through aer lingus for 6 nights at the Adare Manor Villas.
I hope we don't end up in a switch. We will be traveling in June. My Itinerary goes like this:
Day 1: arrive Shannon airport at 5:30 am. We will be jet lagged so I thought we would spend the morning in Adare and than check in to our rooms and spend the rest of the day at the Adare Manor.
Day 2: Visit the Cliffs of Moher, Cliff walk and Beach at Ballybunion, Loop head and the Burren. Maybe do a 1 hour cruise of the cliffs from Doolin.
Day 3: Morning Golf at Adare Manor and afternoon and evening banquet at Bunratty folk Park. Maybe stopping in at Durty Nellies.
Day 4: Kilarney National Park. Take a tour of the Gap by jaunting car and boat tour of the lakes. Stop in Kenmare for dinner on the way back to Adare.
Day 5: Visit the rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle and Swiss cottage stopping in Kilkenny.
Day 6: Visit Blarney Castle and Cork City. The Cork Festival of the Senses will be going on that time in June. Maybe stop in Kinsale and Cobh.
Day 7: fly back to USA
I was trying really hard to see Dingle and the Ring of Kerry, but I think it will be too much driving back and forth from Adare. I also wanted to see Galway, the Aran Islands and Skellig Michael. But again, too much driving. I guess I will have to save that for another trip. What do you think? I would really appreciate your advise and opinion on my itinerary. Thank you so very much.
Welcome to my forum. You are in for a treat staying at the villas at Adare Manor. They are gorgeous. Although days are long in June I think you may be trying to do too much on a few days. Lets go over them below:
Day 1: arrive Shannon airport at 5:30 am. We will be jet lagged so I thought we would spend the morning in Adare and than check in to our rooms and spend the rest of the day at the Adare Manor. * Fine.
Day 2: Visit the Cliffs of Moher, Cliff walk and Beach at Ballybunion, Loop head and the Burren. Maybe do a 1 hour cruise of the cliffs from Doolin. * Too much! Skip Ballybunion. You will be lucky to fit in all the rest. Consider taking the ferry across the Shannon both ways to avoid Limerick. Get a "return fare". That means round trip and will save a little as opposed to two one-way fares.
Day 3: Morning Golf at Adare Manor and afternoon and evening banquet at Bunratty folk Park. Maybe stopping in at Durty Nellies. * Fine.
Day 4: Kilarney National Park. Take a tour of the Gap by jaunting car and boat tour of the lakes. Stop in Kenmare for dinner on the way back to Adare. * The Gap of Dunloe tour takes most of the day and starts pretty early. Take a look at Dero's Tours.
Day 5: Visit the rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle and Swiss cottage stopping in Kilkenny. * By the time you finish with the ROC, Cahir Castle and Swiss Cottage any sightseeing in Kilkenny (like the castle) will probably be closed. Suggest doing the first three. Remember each sightseeing stop takes time to see. It is not as if you just drive by and wave at them.
Day 6: Visit Blarney Castle and Cork City. The Cork Festival of the Senses will be going on that time in June. Maybe stop in Kinsale and Cobh. * Lots planned for this day too. You probably will only do a portion of it.
Day 7: fly back to USA
Once you have been in Ireland for a day or so you will get used to the reality of driving around the country. There is so much to see and do but you are right that you can't see it all. Stick with what you have and adjust it as each day plays out.
Thank you so very much Michele, Dero's tours look like a perfect choice! Also, the ferry tip sounds great.
Would you suggest changing a day to do either the ROK or Dingle, or do you think that the places I am planning are a better choice with the driving I will have to do.
Have you ever been to the cork festival of the senses or would you plan a stop in Kinsale or Cobh instead?
Thank you once again, you really have a wonderful forum!
I think that you have plenty planned. If you were going to decide between Dingle or ROK, I would go for Dingle. It will be a long day out with the drive taking about 3 hours to Dingle. Then it will take longer for Slea Head Drive. Depends on how much driving you want to do.
I have not been to the festival. I suggest you play it be ear as to weather and what you feel like doing each day. That is one benefit of self-catering.
Thanks again, Michele. I will stick to what I have planned and save Dingle for another time.
I just placed an order for your book and I am looking forward to receiving it to help me plan out the details like restaurants and pubs etc. You certainly are an expert on Ireland. I will probably have more question before I leave, until than thanks for all of your help and I look forward to reading your book.
