We're renting a home in Ireland for our sisters trip in June & need to send a 50 euro deposit. Can't seem to get an answer from my local banks. Any help is greatly appreciated
Hi Celtic Force, I don't see how you can either. I'd just call and ask the people who own the house and see if they will just take a money after your sister arrives, what a nice thing for you to do! My bank didn't know either. Quite a few of the people we have rented from say pay them when you get here, in Euros. Others just take my credit card number, etc. info. One place took a check..... Good luck! ......youngka

Ask your bank if they have a Foriegn Draft service. I know that US Bank has such a service. USPS used to do international money orders but I am not sure that they still offer that service. You could also look into doing a wire transfer. You would need to have their bank information to do so.
I agree with Karen, contact the owners of the rental and inquire as to how they want to proceed.
I have sent cheques drawn on my own bank as a deposit. The proprietors usually just hold on to it and hand it back to me when I pay for the lodging.
I have rented self-catering places all over Ireland and have done it several different ways. With Pay Pal, sent a check in dollars and it was deposited into an Irish bank (and converted to euros at the going rate), used a credit card for deposit. Your bank should be able to transfer the money directly to the cottage owners account. But it generally costs an extra $25 to do so. You might look into an international money order too.
Tell the cottage owner of your problems and ask for suggestions. They should be willing to work with you.
thanks for everyones suggestions, I just heard from the owner & said said not to worry about it we'll settle up when we get there. Far cry from renting in Chicago!
