We leave in 3 wks for our 2 wk stay in Ireland. This is only my second trip, first one being in 2001. There will be 8 of us, two of which are my daughters who are in their mid to upper 20's. They wanted to see the wicklow area mostly because of many movies such as P.S. I Love you, Brave Heart, Circle of Friends etc. I must admit I am a Ballykissangel fan myself so will be stopping by Fitzgeralds for sure. We are staying 2 days in Avoca area. Unfortunately we will fly in and out of Dublin. I am a bit nervous about that after reading your post on Dublin Airport.
My question is what route would you take from Dublin to Avoca and what would you do on the first day. Second day we plan on going to Glendalough and up to Blessington and circle back down to Avoca.
We have a direct flight from Orlando to Dublin arriving at 7:50 am so I am not sure how the jet lag will be. Our first trip we had 2 stops before arriving in Shannon and we were shot by 12 noon. Was thinking of stopping somewhere for breakfast( any suggestions) and maybe take in Powerscourt and a route that would not be repeated the second day. Any suggestions on towns we should not miss in this area
We left the dublin Airport and got on the M50 Motorway that goes around the west side of Dublin. We then exited the M50 south/southwest side of Dublin on one of the main highways down to Avoca, I do not have the highway number since I am away from my maps. The M50 is quite easy compared to going through Dublin center. Hope this helps...Dan
As to what to do the first day, we landed around noon, got our rental car, and managed 2 stops....Powerscourt Gardens, and Glendalough. We still made it to our B&B in Avoca by 6PM. We called ahead to let them know we would be one hour late. The visitor center at Glendalough was just closing as we arrived, but we did a short self guided tour, and it was worth while, since we needed to break up the trip with some fresh air! Dan
It is pretty easy getting out of Dublin Airport. Just get good directions on where the car lots are.
I would suggest seeing Powerscourt on your first day. A walk around the gardens may just clear the cobwebs from your head and get you started on a great Irish adventure. There is a nice cafe there. If the weather is nice you can sit on the terrace overlooking the mountains and gardens.
The easiest route is to take and M50 south. Continue south and exit for Enniskerry (that's where Powerscourt is).
Glendalough never closes. The visitor center closes in late afternoon. However, if you just want to walk around yourselves early or late is best because there will be no crowds there.

P.S. Circle of Friends was filmed in Inistioge in Co. Kilkenny.
Thanks Michele I recently purchased your book and am really enjoying it I wish I would have purchased it sooner as I really like your choice of accomodations.

Glad you are enjoying my book. I am extremely fussy about the accommodations I recommend. I choose only the best in each area. Maybe if you get to return to Ireland again you can stay at some of my recommended places.
Without a doubt I will be trying some of your recommendations, one being Loch Lein The special you were talking about. I have already started planning my next trip around some of your recommendations for next year
