Dublin hotels/trans

Hi All
I am going to ireland for the first time in the 2nd week of SEPT.  Starting Shannon, flying out of Dublin.  I work part time for the marriott and can get steep discounts on rooms.  Would you recommend staying in the city center of Dublin, or daytripping into Dublin from a surrounding town.
For examle, I can  stay here

Ashbourne Marriott® Hotel

The Rath Ashbourne, County Meath, Ireland

  • Phone:  353 1 835 0800
  • Fax353 1 801 0301
  • Sales:  353 1 835 6810

For $50 euros per night.....  is it worth it to stay here and do public transportation into the city, or am I better off staying in Dublin city center to experience more that Dublin has to offer??

thanks for your help..
Chris

Chris,

How long will you be in Dublin and what do you expect to do as far as sightseeing in the city?

Plan on seeing Temple bar district, Breeze through Trinity college, Jameson distillery and other than that, I'm still planning, but only going to be a few days in Dublin...

Just looking at bus schedules it is an hour bus ride from Ashbourne town to Dublin (E4 - E5 each way) or you can take hotel shuttle to airport and catch a bus there. Taxi is about E60 each way. If you just want to go in for a day it might work but anything longer might make it more worth while to be in city centre.

Chris,

I agree with Irrover that staying in the city center will probably work best for you. Bewley's Ballsbridge is a short bus ride to the city center and has some very good rates going at the moment. Many of the other hotels have specials too. Take a look at their websites.

Ashbourne is just too far.
