You wouuld be best off to rent the car on your arrival, as the additional costs incurred by renting in Kerry and dropping off at Shannon will most likely negate any savings. Also, a taxi from Shannon to Killarney would be expensive, as you are looking at close to 86 miles and over two hours one way. The bus would be a cheaper alternative but it is a more drawn out way to travel. I wouldn't recommend it after a transatlantic flight.

You can still take advantage of the day tours. You will have the added assurance of having your own vehicle at hand.
