2 nights in Galway ?

Hello everyone,

We just booked our last night at shannon park hotel because we need to fly out very early in the morning and leave the car at 5am, crazy.

Now we are in Kenmare and I can't decide where to go next.
We need to leave this saturday.

I am thinking going straight to Galway and spend two nights there.
If spending two nights, the first would be to visit the city and the next to visit cliff of moher, the burren...

Or maybe one night galway, one night doolin or ennis. But we have to go down there to sleep in Shannon ...

Any suggestions ?

What about things to do, B&B and hotels when we are there?

Thanks !!

You might consider seeing the Cliffs on your way to Galway area (cross at the Kilimer-Tarbert Ferry to save time on the route) and you might stay in Doolin for one night on your way to Galway.  Kenmare to Galway would make for a long day.

A good B&B in Doolin is Daly's House, hosted by Susan Daly and within walking distance of fabled Gus O'Connor's Pub and its nightly traditional music.  If you stayed in Doolin, the Cliffs would be only a few miles away.  I've stayed at Daly's several times and always have enjoyed it a great deal.

I've found this to be a nice way to take the Kenmare-Galway stretch, as you can cut across County Clare on your way to Galway and see a great deal of the Burren on that route, or take the wonderful scenic coastal route instead.  Both are real nice for sure.

bonald,

If you don't have to see Galway City you could always spend two nights in Doolin. As Sidz says it takes time to drive from Kenmare up to Doolin. That would give you more time to explore Clare and the Burren. Perhaps see Aillwee Cave and/or the Birds of Prey Center there. If you get good weather Loop Head Drive is fantastic. Plenty to do with two nights in Doolin. Places I like:

Cullinan's
O'Connor's
Hotel Doolin

Don't expect too much from the Shannon Park Hotel except for it being at the airport.

Bonald, I am sure you are on the road by now, but if you get to the Kinvara area, just north of the Cliffs and are getting hungry, smile  be sure and stop at Linnanes Seafood restaurant.   There will be plenty of signs as you drive up the coast towards Galway.  We stayed at the Hotel at Shannon Airport and found it more than convenient since you just walk across the "street" and you are in the airport!  If you have a car, leave it the night before and they will just take you back to the hotel.  We had that same flight!  And I do remember we had time to eat breakfast, you pay - not included in price of hotel, but a very good breakfast.  We could even order pizza for dinner, if I remember right, and if you are there early enough the night before they have a deli open....When you leave, there are carts in front of the hotel for you luggage also.  Enjoy the rest of your trip!

So there is not much to see in Galway ? I know it's quite a long drive.
My girlfriend likes shopping you know.... and she loved Dublin.

Anyway thanks for the tips.
Doolin for 2 nights might be the final destination !
That might change again if people send us some more tips!

Achill Lodge is a great place to stay. On the far west side of Salthill, though. WC

WC,

I like getting away from the madding crowd so the location of Achill Lodge is a plus for me. Of course, others like to be in the thick of things.
