Self-Catering Schull. West Cork

Hello Michele
I am looking at self-catering places in West Cork, specifically Schull or Ballybehob. There are just 2 of us. We enjoy village or town life and want to be within easy walking distance of shops, pubs etc. Does anyone have any specific recommendations?

Stewart,

I have inspected Fort View House B&B on the Mizen Peninsula. It was very nice. They now have self-catering cottages on the peninsula. Take a look: http://www.fortviewhousegoleen.com/

The following are places I have bookmarked but have not visited:

http://www.ardogeena.moonfruit.com/
http://www.raffeencottages.com/jasons_cottage/rooms.html
http://www.bridgeviewhouse.com/self-catering-house/index.html

A good way to search is at http://www.discoverireland.com/us/ and www.goireland.com You can input your exact requirements and see what comes up. Don't overlook a Google search and look at my links page too.

Thanks Michele,
You have suggested some very nice places. Ardogeena is particularly appealing. It is already booked for the week that I'm looking at. We have developed a preference for staying in Towns or Villages while self-catering in Ireland; quite limiting. I have booked with Moira Collins. She was very helpful in answering my questions.http://schull-holidaymakers.com/index.htm.

I got in touch with Jer Foley; he's vacationing in Australia, and I have booked O'Donnaibhens in Kenmare for 3 nites. He promises to contact you when he returns in February.
thanks again
Stewart

Stewart,

Sounds like things are shaping up for a great vacation. You will be very comfortable at O'Donnabhain's and the location can't be beat. Jer runs a tight ship and likes everything to be just so.

I understand the need to be in a town or village. Most self-catering that I have done has been outside towns. When I rented a thatched cottage in Adare it was wonderful to be right in the village within walking distance of everything. We discovered that our cottage was one of the most photographed in Adare and met people from all over the world. Plus we got to enjoy the fashion parade across the street at the Dunraven Arms Hotel where they had several weddings during our week there.

Don't keep me in suspense. Which cottage did you book?

We rented the 'Red House' for 350 Euro for the week. It took me a while to decide between that and 'Jesmond' with a better view and a bigger property at 450 Euro but the 2 of us really don't need a house for 8. As I said, Moira Collins was very helpful with all my questions. I'll report when we return.

Ah, I thought that was the one you had rented. It should be perfect for being in town.
