Michelle, Our stay of one week won't warrant buying a cellphone while in Ireland. But we'd love to have a calling card that would enable us to call within Ireland - Kerry, Limerick and Clare counties - as well as to the US. I have searched online, but cannot seem to come up with a card that covers within Ireland and US calling. Any ideas? Thanks so much, Cherry
We bought an Eircom card for 10E at the airport just after we arrived. It has a pin, and two codes. We used the card at public phones to call B&Bs within Ireland and to call back home to the US. It worked beautifully! I was relieved not to have a cell phone to drag along. After all, we are supposed to be on Vacation! WC
Excellent info from WC. I have used the calling cards for over 30 years and been happy with them. Sometimes at public phones you have to insert 50 cent but you get it back at the end of the call. Just depends on the phone.
Last trip I broke down and actually ordered a cell phone (the one on my website). Since I self-cater in out of the way places, I thought it would be good to have for emergencies. I was pleased with it. But for your purposes, the phone card will be best.
At Shannon Airport you can get the card at either Londis or WHSmith. Then you will be set for the trip.
I used an AT&T calling card that I bought at Sam's club and used it to call places within Ireland and to call my husband at home...it worked just fine...no problems at all. Good luck!
