Good News For Shannon Fliers

Despite cutbacks, it looks like the M20 Limerick-To-Cork is STILL a go biggrin biggrin biggrin:

Bob,

Thanks for the news update. That will make Limerick to Cork travel easier once it is finished. Now if only the airlines would start flying into Shannon again.

We have our flight tickets to fly into Shannon in May. Is there going to be a problem with those tickets? I have not been paying too much attention up until now as we prepare for our trip.

No, there's no problem.  biggrin

The news refers to the fact that the Irish government has decided -- despite SERIOUS cutbacks in Goverment spending -- to procede with the plan to UPGRADE the main road between Limerick and Cork city from an open-access, N (National) Road to an limited access, M (Motorway).

The reason that I posted it under the title of "Good New", is a number of us 'Irregulars' ( well, hmm ME, for one  biggrin biggrin) prefer to fly into Shannon, rather than Dublin ( the 'Great Construction Zone And Cattle Pen'  disbelief disbelief) and the road upgrade, once complete in a year or three  biggrin ,  will SHORTEN the drive to Cork, Blarney, Kinsale or Cohb by AT LEAST 30-45 minutes and maybe more.

Mind you, there's NOTHING wrong with the current N20, but it CAN be 'Slow Going' -- in spots like Charleville and Buttevant.

Michele's comment refers to the fact that, under the 'Open Sky' Legislation, several airlines have opted to reduce or eliminate altogether, the flights into Shannon -- choosing, instead, to concentrate on the more lucrative DUBLIN route -- and therefor reducing Ground Crew costs, by only servicing ONE airport, rather than two.

There are STILL flights into Shannon.  And, as the Irish say, "Please God, there always WILL be!"

Sorry if I gave you a fright.  Have a GREAT trip.

Maureen,

I didn't mean to alarm anyone. A better choice of words would have been "if only MORE airlines would start flying into Shannon again". I generally fly Delta and they have really cut back on Shannon.
