First trip to Ireland!

Hello! Im going to Ireland for the first time this year! biggrin (from march 31 to april the 10th) I am landing in Dublin and I would like to know where to go...

I love Celtic culture, castles, small towns, beautiful scenery. Where would you recomend me to go?? confuse I would travel by public transportation (not old enough to rent a car cry )

Maybe some ideas to make myself an itinerary.

Thank you so much for your time!

Amanda,

Welcome to my forum. Because you are traveling by public transportation getting around will take more time and thought than if you were driving. But it can be done successfully. First, go to my Transport page and click through to trains and buses. Then you can look at schedules and determine if buying a pass will be helpful for your trip.

Trains hub out like a spiderweb from Dublin. Some places to consider staying on the train routes would be Kilkenny, Cork, Killarney, Galway. They all offer day tours to surrounding areas.

Amanda,

You might look into Paddywagon tours, as a way of getting around the country. They are quite reasonable, being  focused on the college age set and backpackers.  They have both set itineraries and a hop on/off option. The full tours are inclusive of your lodgings, breakfasts and most entry fees. The hop on/off option is just the transportationbut they will help you out with finding lodging. They have Hostels in just about all of their stops or know the best ones.  also, they keep their size down so its not like you aer lost in the crush.

CowboyCraic, thank you so much for you suggestion, I am booking the 6 day tour of All Ireland, the prices and all they have to offer is amazing!! I was thinking traveling on my own because it was too expensive! but that tour seems about perfect!

Amanda,

That is good news. You will have to let us know how your Paddywagon tour goes when you get back.

I am glad that it works for you! I was the eldest person on my tour. It was like traveling with my own children some times but always a blast.

I believe with the six day tour you have chosen that you go to Belfast. There should be the option of  taking a Black cab tour in Belfast. I highly recommend taht you take one. It is the best way to learn the history of the Troubles from a local perspective.

Have fun and I look forward to hearing about your experiences when you return.
