Killarney vs Kenmare

We will be in Ireland March 11 to the 21.
We will have three days in the Killarney/Kenmare area.  Coming from Dingle, would it be best to stay a day in Kenmare and then go up to Killarney for a couple of days?  What do you think?  Thanks
Bonnie

Bonnie,

Welcome to my forum. Kenmare and Killarney are about one hour apart - maybe a little less - depending on your route. That being the case, I would opt for my whole time in either Killarney or Kenmare. If you can tell me a little more about what you plan to do in the area I will help you decide on one or the other.

We will be doing the Ring of Kerry and would like to do some hiking and siteseeing, eating some good seafood, etc.  And take in some good pub music if possible.  We would mainly like to do some great siteseeing and hiking.  We will be coming from the Dingle direction.  We get into Shannon on the 11th, stay in Galway for two nights, Dingle for two nights and then overto the Killarney/Kenmare area, then to Kinsale for a night and Kilkenny for two nights and back to Shannon on the 21, out on the 22nd.
I'm also thinking of purchasing your book.  Do you know how long it would take to get it?  I live in Dubois, Wyoming, USA.
Thank You
Bonnie

In my opinion, there is much to do and see in and around Killarney, but I also would rather actually stay in Kenmare.  It's a wonderful village and more intimate setting instead of Killarney --  a place many find extremely touristy. You can easily do day trips to the scenic areas south of Killarney and then return to Kenmare each evening.

As a plus, some of the best meals I've ever had in Ireland came in Kenmare!

Thank you very much. I was just looking at the Beara Penn. It's looks very exciting. Can't wait to get there.

Would you have a recommendation as to where to stay in Kinmare?
Thanks So Much, Bonnie

Bonnie,

It generally takes three days to get my book in the lower 48 states. Bob has directed you to my lodgings page. I have some picks for Kenmare there. I have more in my book.

It looks like you are leaning toward Kenmare. May I suggest you see many of the sights in Killarney on the drive from Dingle to Kenmare? You could easily do Muckross House & Gardens, Ross Castle and see the town.

The Beara Peninsula is outstanding. I have a bit about a great restaurant there on my Blog.

Many thanks to both of you. I appreciate all your info. Will search it out. My brother purchased your book and we should have it soon. Thank you again.
