Lodging in Athlone

Hi all,
I'm looking for recommendations for lodging in Athlone. I've tried emailing Glasson Stone Lodge multiple times with no response. Any other ideas?
Thanks!

A Chara, you are certainly going off the beaten track! First Portalaoise and now Athlone...hmmm

I would suggest Bastion's B&B in Athlone. It is kinda quirky but comfortable and Vinny and Anthony are attentive without being intrusive

Cornamagh B&B would also be a good choice. It is just a short drive, about five minutes, from town centre. Brian & Mary have given a lot of thought to the details of the house and gardens. Did I mention their lawn ornaments......some mighty fine ponies?

Hi Bit!
Thanks for the suggestions! Is there a better place to stay midway between Shannon and Dubling? We want to spend some time at Clonmacnoise. I thought about popping up to Roscommon...

Jeane,

Have you considered staying in the town of Clonmacnoise? There are a few good B&Bs there.  MeadowView is fairly close, maybe  one click, possibly two, to the Monastic Settlement. Kajon House is also fairly close to Clonmacnoise. Of the two, I would recomend Kajon House first off. Kate & John (hence Kajon) have a wicked sense of humour and treated me like gold. Kajon is about 1.5 clicks from Clonmacnoise.

Athlone and/or Roscommon Town are farther afield from Clonmacnoise. Of the two, of course, I would recommend Roscommon Town, especially if you will be there on a Thursday night, as I believe taht is still teh seissun night at Doorly's.

Slan Beo,

Kajon House sounds perfect, Bit! I've popped an email off to Kate and John (or is that John and Kate--and please tell me there is no "plus eight!" :) )

I'm wild about people with a wicked sense of humor so would love to meet them.

I'll let you know if it works out! Thanks again for your great suggestions.

Jeanne

P.S. I've always been bummed that we were not able to connect when you passed through New Mexico a couple of years back. If you end up in the neighborhood again, let me know!

LOL,

There is no plus eight, thank the saints!  I hope you are well satisfied there. I enjoyed my stay and wished at been longer.

I am hoping to get to Albuquerque in early May for the Irish Festival. It is still on for this year, yes?

Slan Beo,

Yes! it's still on, though my band, "The Next Chapter" won't be playing this year. My son and daughter-in-law just gave us the gift of our first granddaughter, so the family band is not yet ready to start making music again. We're sitting out from performing there for the first time in years! A teen group that I work with "JUBALation" will be performing on the main stage, though, at about 10:30 I think? So I'll be there! Let me know your plans so we can cross paths for real this year!

Jeanne,

Even if you spend a few hours at Clonmacnoise and have a leisurely lunch there, you could still make it cross country in a day. But it depends on how "leisurely" you want to go.

Thanks for giving me a feel for the time element, Michele. It helps to know that we can make it all the way in that one day.

Kajon House sounds like a fun stay, though, so I'm leaning towards stopping for the night there.

Jeanne,

Which ever B&Bs you choose, you will have to let us know about them on your return. It will be so helpful to the others on the forum.
