Just wanted to let everyone know there is a new article on my Blog about Meath, the Wonders of Fore, Loughcrew Cairns, hidden gems, etc. Hope you enjoy it!
I love those areas...the landscape is ever changing...I could spend the day exploring the Fore Valley...in fact I did just that on my last trip...thanks to some Faery humour....
I am looking forward to introducing the Folk on my tour next summer to the Fore Valley and its Seven Wonders....one of several hidden gems...
Another wonderful find last year was Altadavin Glen in the Clogher Valley.... They call it the Druid's Walk...It was, indeed, a magical area...
Those fairies will get you every time! I love going off-the-beaten-path too. There are some wonderful treasures all over Ireland that tourists never see. Do you have photos of Altadavin Glen on your Zazzle shop?
I currently have the Druids' Cottage up on Products in my Zazzle store.
I spent almost three hours photographing this stone cottage, deep in the middle of the Glen. I love the cross layed stone cornerstone of the cottage. That is very unusual
The shopkeeper in the next town may have been having ago at me when I stopped in and asked for information on the Cottage. They said that rarely is there a photograph that turns out of the cottage. They said that it was the Druids' Cottage, built there for the Druids to rest on their journeys North & South. From the Energy in that Stone house, I would say that some are resting there still.
It has been one of my best sellers, so I thank the Faeries often for leading me there.
So many tourists focus on the things they have heard about: Cliffs of Moher, Blarney Castle, ROK to name a few. They miss quite a few of the special places that can be savored. I would rather spend a morning with my tour clients hiking the Sliabh Liag or do a picnic lunch for them on Loophead than two hours at the Cliffs of Moher.
I would say that it would take you at least 3 hours from Roscommon town to get there. It is on one of the back roads on the Tyrone/Fermanagh border, just outside of Augher in the Favour Royal Forest Park. It is inbetween Fivemiletown & Augher.
It is a beautiful spot. However, Lough Key Forest Park in County Roscommon is equally beautiful though it doesn't have the Druid's Cottage.
Still working away at your genealogy. I am waiting on some inquiries I sent out to friends in Roscommon town.
I love the cottage! It makes you wonder who lived in it and why it was abandoned. Whenever I see the various ruins around Ireland - but especially the old derelict cottages - it sets my mind imagining.
My husband took a photo of an thatched cottage near Swords where a very old woman lived. A few years later we stopped back to take another with a new camera. It had fallen to rack and ruin. I can only imagine that the woman died and left her once well-kept cottage to the elements. What a pity. Here is a photo: Thatched Cottage.
What a wonderful Thatchie! I love the Blue and White Portico. What a shame that it wasn't kept up after her passing.
I climbed in and around that cottage for hours. I never made ST Patrick's Chair. It just means that I will have to try again next year, should I find my way up in that direction. I am staying an extra eight days. However, most of that will be given over to FLANO's genealogical research in Cork & Clare.
Too bad the cottage is so far north, maybe next time.
I am getting quite anxious to get there and see what we have to see this year. Both of our other trips I was in charge of planning. I knew exactly where we were going and what we were going to see. For this trip I have left all of the planning up to Keith. Since I've been doing the geneology work for him and found where his family hailed from I felt it should be left to him to decide what to do and see. As a result, I haven't a clue where all we are going (and it's driving me crazy)!
Thanks for checking with friends on the family, Keith is really excited!
