Which route between Doolin and Dingle

There are two routes suggested by aaireland.ie between Doolin and Dingle, with and without motorways.  Does anyone have comments or suggestions to help me select which route we should take?

If we choose the one without motorway it is depending on ferry service on the River Shannon, should we be concerned about weather and whether the ferry will be running in September? Thank you very much, Deborah

The Shannon ferry is far enough up river to avoid heavy seas so I cant remember it ever being stopped for bad weather. I would follow the coast down and check out Loop Head if you have time. If not then don't worry about the 2 lane motorway route by Limerick, you will have driven more intimidating roads around Doolin

Deborah,

I agree with Tony's advice. Go down the scenic coast of Clare and take the ferry across the Shannon. Then proceed south to Dingle. No problems with the ferry. The only ferry problems you will find in Ireland are those that cross the ocean to offshore islands. They are wind, weather and sea dependent.

We will be doing the reverse route, Dingle to Doolin, and plan on taking the ferry as that's a far more scenic route.

Thanks for the comments, I hope time will allow a drive to Loop Head on the way to Dingle. Ron and I like to get up early and get going but that doesn't seem to happen for us when we stay at B&B's---usually there is too much good food and conversation. I'll just keep reminding myself to take it slow and enjoy the moment!! biggrin.gif  Deborah

Deborah,

I know what you mean about the late starts. But chatting with others over breakfast is very enjoyable and as much a part of the trip as your sightseeing. If the weather is good I hope you get down to Loop Head. It is well worth the detour.
