New Post Connemara trip with 10 yr olds

Since our daughter was very small, we promised to take her to Ireland when she turned 10, which is this year. We want to stay in the Connemara region for about a week or two. My 10 yr old nephew also may be coming and my mother, in her 60s. We love to bike and hike and eat. Shopping is a very low priority. We enjoy Irish music and dance ( my daughter takes lessons). My husband and I visited the region 12 years ago and stayed in BnBs and loved it. We would value the BnB experience again and would enjoy a bike tour. We would appreciate guidance and recommendations.

Hi franny,

What a lovely dream trip you are fulfilling for your daughter. Connemara is one of my favorite parts of Ireland also. Since there may be four of you traveling together and you want to stay put in one area, had you thought of doing self-catering instead of B&Bs? It might be more cost effective for you to rent a cottage or condo - plus you would have your own kitchen, living room and several bedrooms to accommodate everyone.

I do agree that the B&B experience is a great one and if that is what you want your daughter, nephew and mother to experience that is certainly doable. What you have to decide now is:

1. When you are going
2. How long you will spend in Ireland
3. Whether you will do B&Bs or self-catering
4. What town you want to stay in

Below are some links to cycling and hiking in Connemara:

If you have two weeks to spend in Ireland and have not seen other areas of the country, you might consider spending a week in Connemara and a week elsewhere.

I hope this info will get you started with your planning. If you have any other questions I will be happy to answer them.

Happy travels,

Michele
