New Post Roads of Ireland

My wife and I will be traveling to Ireland the second and third weeks of June 2002.

This will be the second time in five years.

I made the mistake of taking the Ring of Kerry clockwise and fighting the tour busses for the one lane road the first time -- now I know where I got my premature white hair. We ended up with a flat and found one of the few shoulders in the road to pull over. A farmer ( angel? ) came out of his field to replace it. He said he did it all the time. I got a new tire in Waterville -- I hear they do a good business.

I'm going to try to stick with most of the national roads ( bigger ) this time

a few travel questions:

Using Donegal Town as a stayover, should we travel from Donegal to Glenveagh N. P. and Slieve League Cliffs by car or find a couple tours ( bus, minibus )that go there from Donegal -- the less I have to deal with the Irish roads the better, plus I can enjoy the views along the way.

Do you know of any one-day tours that go there from Donegal.

Is it possible to drive to Kellybegs without losing a couple lifes and maybe walk to bunglass point.

Thanks for any help
Pete

Hi Pete,

The tours from Donegal town are very seasonal and unfortunately Bus Eireann's tours only run from July to the beginning of Sept. However, try the following links to find out about the availability of other tours in June:

www.timeouttours.com/
www.mangantours.com/daytours.htm
www.bushq.com/Donegal/

The road from Donegal to Killybegs and the one from Donegal to Letterkenny are fine and unless they decide to do roadworks on them I think you will avoid the white knuckle syndrome. The road from Letterkenny to Glenveagh is smaller.

I hope you and your wife enjoy your second trip to Ireland and have fun in the "wilds" of Donegal.

Michele
