Rental Car

Michele: Are you familiar with a company called Nova? They appear to be an agent for several rental car companies including National Car Rental. The best rates I have found for a 2 week rental in May was $276, CDW and all taxes inclusive. Their website is rentacar-ireland.com.

Nova

I asked Michele this question last year, and she told me to check them out with the Irish Tourist Board and the car rental firm who said they were okay.

I used them with Budget Rent a Car and had no problems. Make sure you bring a copy of your reservation with NOVA to the rental agent and make sure the company a shows the same rates and insurances. The CDW they offer does have a 400 punt deductible which the car company might try to sell you a zero deductible. I took my chances and really didn't have any problems and would use them again. They definitely have some of the lowest rates.

Re: Rental Car

Hi 2westie,

Irrover is absolutely correct and has the personal experience of renting from Nova. They are a broker and find the best rates among several companies. The rate seems very good. Also give this a try: www.budgetcarrental.ie/ I got an excellent rate in September by booking online.

Keep in mind that many car rental companies will meet or beat any other price you are quoted. So it's not a bad idea to call around and say "XYZ company will give me this for $XXX can you do better?"

With the slowdown in tourism the car companies should be battling for your business.

That's an incredible rate. Did you get a manual or automatic. Rates for automatics are usually much higher, but I still go with them. I drive a manual here in the US, but shifting with the left hand on top of everything else might be too much. I got a rate from Murray's Autoeurop of about $190 per week including everything but VAT. That was the best I could find anywhere including Nova. Autoeurop's prices went up at the beginning of the year.

Age limitations

Is anyone aware of a rental company that will rent to a 23-year old who has held their license for one year? Just about every company I've found will only rent to someone under 25 if they've held their license for at least 2 years.

Thanks, George

Hi George,

Looks like you have your work cut out for you. I suggest calling the various car rental companies toll-free numbers to see if you can find one that will rent to you. They all have different rules. Try the major companies first (like Hertz). Just click on "Car Rentals" on the bottom of this page for the phone numbers. Hope your search is successful. We would enjoy hearing about any that will rent to young drivers.
