Are we nuts? Does the following make sense? After spending 6 days hillwalking in Donegal my husband and I intend to go south. Our thinking is to drive from Donegal to Doolin in one day via Sligo and Balyhanius (mother-in-laws hometown)no sightseeing planned this day. Stay in Doolin to begin our tour of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher the next day then take the car ferry to Co. Kerry to set up for day on Dingle Peninsula. Spending the night at Tralee or Castlegregoy.
Now, how do we spend our time on the Dingle Peninsula? I am inclined not to go to Dingle proper but to enjoy the beach (if the weather is good) near Castlegregory and complete a beach walk there. What is your opinion?
We need to be in Union Hall, Co Cork on the evening of our day on the Dingle Peninsula. We anticipate a 3 hour drive, is this reasonable?
Thanks for your help. I've been able to set up car rental etc. from Donegal w/your assistance and found some great hiking information.
Julie

Well, I'd never say you were nuts! Lacking in knowledge of drive times in Ireland, maybe. That's a tremendous amount of driving and it's hard to see how you can fit much sightseeing into such a schedule. Donegal to Doolin will probably take 5-6 hours (depending on road conditions, traffic, etc.). Doolin to Castlegregory via the ferry will take perhaps 4 1/2 to 5 hours (longer to Dingle Town). And Castlegregory to Union Hall will take more like 4-5 hours. I think something needs to be cut out of your tour and since you said you "need to be in Union Hall" I'd cut out Dingle entirely.
Since you will have been in Donegal for six days you will have seen plenty of great beaches (see the heading "Donegal - walking, B&B's and car rental" - now in the Q&A Archive). Personally, I would take my time sightseeing at the Cliffs of Moher and in the Burren, and then just head toward Union Hall, stopping en route somewhere in the early evening. Then you won't have such a long drive to Union Hall the next day and can enjoy your time there.
Glad to hear the hiking and car rental info was helpful.
Enjoy your trip and remember "Take time to smell the shamrocks".
