Galway to Dingle-2 kids-small car???

Everything is booked for our trip during Thanksgiving thanks to the help from Michelle and others.... The lastest "challange" is - we booked Cregg castle for the first 2 nights coming from Shannon- Heatons in Dingle for the next 3 AND Great Southern for the following 3 in Killarney and the last night at the Park House in Shannon - thanks to the AA route planner we discovered that Dingle is a "hike" to say the least (4+ hours) from Galway (Cregg Castle). Should we get a more "southern" place to stay for the first two nights to make the trip w/ a 7-10 yr old less strenuous. OR is there enough places to stop between Galway and Dingle in NOV. that would be open or fun to make the four hours go by a little easier...as always, any and all help is needed and very appreciated as i have to get back to work to pay for this trip!

Well , one idea is to come down through the Burren, and stop at the Cliffs for a bit.
Then head down the coast - maybe do lunch in Kilrush, and take the ferry over the river.
Just over the river , there is a castle ( I think it is Glin? castle that might be worth a stop)

then head into Dingle.....

Hi Mark,

I'm glad to hear you are wrapping up your itinerary and reservations. I would suggest stopping at Aillwee Cave in the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. The ferry would certainly entertain the kids and they can get out of the car and go up the stairs for good views of the Shannon River and surrounding areas.

Then you might stop in Tralee to see The Geraldine Experience. The kids would love taking the ride back in time to medieval Tralee. I'm afraid Glin Castle won't be open but the other attractions will be. If you take Connor Pass you must get out at the viewpoint. It will be a full day but with those stops the kids should be entertained all along the way.

Galway-Dingle Drive

This was by far our longest day in the car - 6 hours, but it was the most fun. (We went down to Killarney, so we went a bit farther than you will). We drove along the coast from Galway to the Cliffs...it was a fun drive and we stopped at a few of the tower houses along the way. Outside Galway along N-18 there is a tiny sign that points to a castle. We turned back and went down a tiny little road and then had to carefully walk through a cow field to get to it. It was awesome and had great views of the beach as well. We loved it and we're not even kids.
The ride along the coast (south of Cliffs) was beautiful...the Shannon River car ferry was great and will save tons of time.

In Dingle...Connor Pass is worth the drive...we stopped quite a few times...there is a waterfall and tons of kids were splashing in it.
