Chelmsford B&B in Killarney?

Good evening Michele,
I appreciate your response to my question last week. If you don't mind, I have another for you. Are you acquainted with the Chelmsford B&B in Killarney? It appears nice on the website. Is it in an easy location? Is there any area of Killarney to avoid?

N

Chelmsford

Hello again Natalia,

I tried to inspect Chelmsford about 1 1/2 years ago but unfortunately they were fully booked and I couldn't see a room. However, I have heard good feedback from others who have stayed there. You're right it looks wonderful on the web site. If you stay there we would enjoy hearing your review of it.

There are no areas of Killarney that you should avoid.

When are you going?

Michele

another suggestion

Just in case Chelmsford is booked,
take a look at Crystal Springs B&B (although I think it is officially a guesthouse now) - www.crystalspringsbb.com/

I stayed there in 2000, and loved it so much that it was the first place I booked for our April trip this year. :D

(If you look at the pictures of the rooms, we had the one with the pink walls - beautiful view of the Flesk river.)

Re
B&B

Thank you, Debbie. I saw that one too and am considering it as well. No problems with parking I assume? Quiet? Drive to town or walk?

Crystal Springs

Natalia -
Crystal Springs was the best place we stayed on our trip - and the others were very nice competition ;) .
There is plenty of parking, the back yard is bordered by the Flesk River, and the breakfast room is full of windows to watch the river go by while eating. ( Yummy Lemon pancakes too.)
There is a very easy drive to town (less than 5 min) and a convenient public parking lot right by the Tourist info office. We drove there, parked the car and then walked all over.
I suppose you could walk in - probably 10 min?

My mother & I found it to be a wonderful place to stay.
Eileeen ( the owner) even arranged for a bus tour for us, for the Ring of Kerry. Pick up / drop off right at the B&B. She gave us a hand-drawn map of the town and marked places to eat and listen to music. ( I saved this and it is now in my scrapbook!)

One thing though - She only takes cash - CC is used to secure your reservation, but when you are there - have cash to pay for the room.

(Oh, and on the web site - my room is the 2nd pink room - the one with the tray on the bed)

Killarney

Thanks again Debbie. I sent off an enquiry to see if it's available for the nights I'm there. Sounds like a great place. Thank you also for the heads up about the cash only. By the way, was there a charge for the car park in town you reference?

parking

yes- it was one of those where you take your ticket when you park and then based on the time you were there you pay on exit.

It wasn't very much - the cost was posted on signs in the lot.

Michele can probably tell you specifics - it may have gone up a bit with the euro / vs/ punt.

A Couple of Finds

Hi Natalia,

Debbie is correct in saying that Crystal Springs has changed over from a B&B to a guesthouse. If you want a really lovely guesthouse right on the edge of town (but quiet) try Killarney Lodge: www.killarneylodge.net/ . It is nice to just leave the car parked at the guesthouse and walk into town (about 3 minutes). If you book in there please tell Catherine that I recommended it and she will take excellent care of you.

If you want a very special place to stay surrounded by Killarney National Park (a couple of miles from town) try Friar's Glen: indigo.ie/~fullerj/ This place is a hidden gem and Mary will treat you royally! This place is really quiet - all you will hear are birds singing and leaves falling.

As for parking in Killarney there is plenty near Tesco and the Tourist Office. Last time I was there Dunnes had free parking.

Dunnes Parking

FYI!

Dunnes will pay for up to 2euro (or 2hours) of your parking, keep a copy of your ticket with you, and go to the customer service desk and they give you cash back.

By the way, why DON'T we have Dunnes here! It's the only store that I don't have a fight with my daughter over the clothes!

HAPPY SHOPPING!

Chelmsford House

We just returned from our trip and we stayed at the Chelmsford House and really enjoyed it. Very nicely decorated with crystal chandeliers in the dining area. Classical music was playing during breakfast. Pat and Louise Griffin are great hosts and very friendly. Lovely view of the Killarney mountains and lake from the window at our breakfast table. The pictures on their website are good which is why we chose it. The real thing is even better. We definitely will stay there again when in the Killarney area.

Chelmsford House

Thank you Charlotte. Did the rooms have locks that you could use while you were out? Do most B&Bs and guesthouses? I've only stayed in one guesthouse in my life and you could not lock the rooms behind you. It made me uncomfortable to know that my belongings were at the mercy of fellow guests. Doesn't matter if there is only one other guest in the house, how do you know who this person is?

Re: Chelmsford House

Hi Natalia,

Yes, the B&Bs and guesthouses have locks on the bedroom doors. You usually get a key to the front door as well as your room so you can come and go as you please.

Charlotte, Many thanks for your review of Chemsford. I hope that I get to inspect it next time.

Michele
