Itinerary

Hi Michele,
Thank you so much for your help so far. I purchased my tickets today! I'll be flying to Dublin on June 7. Would you be so kind as to tell me what you think of my plan?
Day of arrival-explore Dublin in a relaxed fashion
Day 2-Dublin
Day 3-Drive to Cashel, explore Rock and Cahir if time overnight in Cashel (lodging suggestions for the budget conscious?)
Day 4-Drive to Killarney, explore town and sights. Overnight in Killarney
Day 5 -Tour Dingle Peninsula, back to Killarney for overnight (how long does it take to drive to Dingle?)
Day 6- Drive to Cliffs of Moher, explore area (Burren?) and overnight where?
Day 7- Drive back to Dublin, possibly stopping in Tullamore to see Charleville. Is that too long a drive? Should I take the train?
Day 8 Fly home

Thanks!!!

Re: Itinerary

Hi Ande,

Great to hear that you have your tickets and that your itinerary is shaping up. I'm sure your anticipation is increasing every day. Below are my comments about your trip:

Day of arrival-explore Dublin in a relaxed fashion. Michele's Answer: Good. You might take an orientation tour on the hop-on hop-off bus.

Day 2-Dublin. Michele's Answer:  Fine.

Day 3-Drive to Cashel, explore Rock and Cahir if time overnight in Cashel (lodging suggestions for the budget conscious?).  Michele's Answer: Fine. Try Rockside House: www.townandcountry.ie/pre...sisid=1178

Day 4-Drive to Killarney, explore town and sights. Overnight in Killarney. Michele's Answer:  Fine. If you missed Cahir yesterday do it today.

Day 5 -Tour Dingle Peninsula, back to Killarney for overnight (how long does it take to drive to Dingle?). Michele's Answer: Fine. Killarney to Dingle town takes about 1 1/2 hours via Inch Strand or 2 hours via Connor Pass.

Day 6- Drive to Cliffs of Moher, explore area (Burren?) and overnight where? Michele's Answer:  Fine. Take the ferry from Tarbert to Killimer to save time. Consider overnighting in Doolin or Ballyvaughan.

Day 7- Drive back to Dublin, possibly stopping in Tullamore to see Charleville. Is that too long a drive? Should I take the train?  Michele's Answer: The drive is approximately 4 1/2 hours via Galway to Dublin but is very dependent on traffic, etc.

Day 8 Fly home. Michele's Answer:  And time to plan another Ireland trip!

The itinerary looks good and I hope that you enjoy your trip. Let us know how it goes.

Michele

Yellow

Hi Ande,

I have been experimenting with colors. I think the yellow is good for answering on the darker purple. Will have to decide what works best for the lighter purple. Thanks for the feedback.

Ferry, etc

Hello again Michele. The ferry you referenced from Tarbert to save time as I travel from Killarney to the Cliffs of Moher, how much does it cost to take your car across and how long time wise is the crossing? About how much time do you anticipate saving by doing the ferry? How often do the ferries run and how do I find the schedule. Would it be excessive back tracking after the ferry crossing to swing by Dromoland for lunch and then move on to the Cliffs?

Killimer-Tarbert Ferry

Ande -
here is the website for the Tarbert ferry - all your timing & $ questions will be answered there.
www.shannonferries.com/index.html

Yes - it is about an hour / 90 minutes out of your way ( there and back ) to go to Dromoland first and then back to the cliffs.

When you take the ferry, you will be set to hug the coast up to the cliffs.
Getting to Dromoland from the ferry is basically taking you all the way back to Shannon. Unless you have a lot of time and enjoy driving , this would not be the route I would take.

Re: Itinerary

Hi Ande,

Thanks to Princess Debbie for the link to Shannon Ferries. If you want to stop at Dromoland for lunch then you are probably better off taking the main roads and skipping the ferry. You will want reservations for lunch.

Ande,

Don't worry about not being able to see everything. You will just have to follow the lead of many of us at this forum and become a repeat visitor to Ireland. Beware...it is addictive!

Michele ;)
