Laundramats? Glendalough or Kilkenny?

Hi all ,
I am starting to plan what goes in the suitcase for my March 31 - April 14 trip. I have figured out that it is 14 - outfit-days ;) , but I am only bringing my Medium size suitcase ( 25" I think)
SO -
1/2 way through the trip we will be in Glendalough/Laragh , and our last day there (Sunday) is a very open / no plans day.
Do you know if there is a laundramat in the area?

If not, the next day we will be heading into Kilkenny - staying at the Laurels, near the castle. Is there a laundramat nere there?

thanks a bunch -
Debbie

Re: Laundramats? Glendalough or Kilkenny?

Hi Debbie:

There isn't a whole lot in Glendalough/Laragh. I don't remember seeing anything that looked like a laudramat. I'm sure there are options in Kilkeeny and if Micele doesn't know, I'm sure the B&B owner will know.

Not all laundramats are self serve and it is likely that you will just drop your clothes off and pick them up the next day.

Though I've never tried this, but I will be this year, many have suggested bringing along a container of Fabreeze (sp?). Since a lot of pubs are pretty smoky, this helps air out the clothing.

Laundramats? Glendalough or Kilkenny?

thanks for the Fabreeze idea - I had planned on somehting like this , but forgot to put it on the packing list - I am also going to bring some dryer sheets along. ( I am going to put one inside each of my travel-space-bags, to keep clothes fresh)

I would really like to be able to wash the basics though - socks, turtlenecks, unmentionables.....
I honestly don't think I have 14 pairs of socks to bring along...:rollin

Launderettes

Hi Debbie,

There are no launderettes in Laragh. The closest ones would be in Wicklow and Arklow. In Kilkenny is Brett's Launderette on Michael Street; Tel: (056) 63200. But most launderettes are not open on a Sunday.

Bill is correct that most of them are not self-service. You drop your laundry off in the morning and pick it up later in the day all washed, dried and folded. Always give instructions on how to launder your items (like separate darks from whites, etc.) and tell them to fold them.

Weekends are not the best time to get your clothes done since the locals drop their stuff off then. Better to do it on a weekday.

If you can hand-wash a few unmentionables to get you through to Monday maybe that will be best.

NOTE: Irish washing machines have really HOT water. Unless you want everything to shrink tell them to use warm.

Now why can't the showers have equally hot water? Go figure.

Re: Launderettes

Michele:

I wasn't aware of the really hot water. We have done our own and had it done for us once. In Kenmare, they were so backlogged we had to do our own. We were told it would be a 3 day wait for clean clothes. The launderette in Kinsale is apparently using equipment similar to what we have in the US, because we ended up short 1 sock. Where do they go ...? :rollin

Case of the Missing Sock

I'm glad to hear that "The Case of the Missing Sock" has been solved. Has anyone found any of mine in Galway?

Michele :lol
