I have been working behind the scenes transferring data from the old forum to this new one hosted by ActiveBoard. I have transferred over the old Archive and all the Trip Reports. As time permits I will archive all the other postings from the old forum here. You will see my name on all the posts that have been transferred over. On the Trip Reports I have added the name of the original person posting to the title so they will be easier to find.
As many of you know there was a hacker attack at the old EzBoard forum and it hasn't been the same since. It will still remain as an archive but I will be locking it down so no one can post there. Eventually the old forum at EzBoard will have pop-up ads when my subscription to their premium service expires in November 2005.
This new forum is now the place for getting all your Ireland travel questions answered.
You will find many of the same features here. A few things are a bit different from the old forum. But I think that once you get used to it you will enjoy it even more. Some good points:
Search function actually works
It seems quick
Streamlined new look
As with the old forum, you don't have to register to use it. However, with this new forum if you don't register you will be posting as "Anonymous". There is no place for a user name unless you are registered. Since this could get confusing, I am asking everyone who does post as anonymous to add their user name or pseudonym to the posting so that I can keep track of who is who.
Everyone that does register will have to activate their membership by clicking on a link in an email that is sent to them. Once you do that the fun and trip planning begins.
Thanks for being the first to post on the new forum. You're right it is different but the answers will be just the same. Have a great trip to Ireland! We will look forward to hearing from you when you return. Maybe you will be the first to post your Trip Report here.
Love the new look. I will enjoy the new forum (just like the old). It is always wonderful to spend the time reading, and learning from you and the others who post.
Roel, Thanks for being the first to post on the new forum. You're right it is different but the answers will be just the same. Have a great trip to Ireland! We will look forward to hearing from you when you return. Maybe you will be the first to post your Trip Report here. Michele
Thanks, Michele :).
Doing the latest preparations at the moment :). Packing my bags tomorrow and on Saturday: Shannon and Galway, here I come
Don't forget to pack light. I have suggestions on my "Packing" page. You can get to it by clicking on "IrelandYes Index" under the "Log-in" box. Slightly different from the old forum but it works. Have fun!
Hi Michele. Good to be back. Hope all is well. Yes, I am STILL working on my trip report. I'm also landscaping the backyard, finishing the basement and half a dozen more projects in the new house. I really will finish it!
Welcome to the new forum! You certainly sound extremely busy lately. Everything here is going along fine (busy as always). Hope you and Felicity are well. All your projects put the show "Weekend Warriors" to shame. Are you still planning an Irish pub for the basement of the new house?
We will look forward to your trip report whenever you finish. I know it will be well worth the wait. Your adventures in Ireland are always soooo interesting. We get a real kick out of your writing, observations and photos.
It's good to see some familiar names on the board. I too STILL need to post my full trip report...maybe a good project to add to my holiday weekend list ;)
Looking forward to getting this new forum back in full swing!
Welcome to the new forum. I'm glad you are finally signed up and the glitch that kept you out has been solved. If anyone else is having problems accessing anything send me an email from my contact page:http://www.irelandyes.com/contact.html
Maybe we should have a contest to see who will be first to put their completed Trip Report on the new forum.
I am still moving pages over from the old forum into the Archive here. Slow going since I must move each thread one at a time. But I am making headway.
Meanwhile, if anyone has any questions feel free to post and test drive the new toy.
Have Fun! Robin here... we leave at 3:15 pm on Monday from O'hare....maybe we'll all meet up somewhere on the green island. We'll be the smiling couple looking very relaxed. Have a great time!
Just posting to say I found you, thanks to the newsletter, and finally registered, don't want to be just another anonymous poster! So far the site is very nice, hope it continues to work well for all.
Thanks for making the big move to this new forum. I have locked down the old forum so it is now "Read Only". I plan on making this forum just as good -- if not better -- than the old one. One real plus is the Search Function. Another interesting feature is when someone is online (on the main forum page bottom) you can hover your mouse over the name to see what the member is doing on the forum. Interesting.
Just checking in to the new site. My next trip ( Oct of 2005) is to Spain, so I have been busy planning that one, but Ireland is never far from my thoughts.
Welcome to the new forum. Spain sounds like fun. We have a friend who has a condo there and are waiting for an invite. Hope you have a great trip and good weather. Ireland will be waiting for you next year or the year after.
You are supposed to click on a link in an email that was automatically sent to you when you signed up. However, I just went to my administration control box and approved you! Try again and see what happens. Let me know if there is a problem.
I just wanted to say hello and tell you that the new forum looks great! I got myself registered and will probably have lots of questions coming up as we plan our first trip to Ireland for May 2006.
I've learned so much already by reading the old forum and now the new and I love the travel reports that members write ~ gives me a real 'feel' for what it will be like.
We plan to spend approximately 2 1/2 weeks in Ireland starting in early May 2006. One place that we are going to see is County Donegal and the Inishowen Penninsula as that is where I've traced my family ancestors to.
I look forward to reading the forum and I'll pop up with questions once I figure out what to even ask! :)
Congrats on your new forum, Michelle! It looks great and yes, it is good to see some of the familiar names. I, too, have yet to post my trip report from way back it April! My family was here for the entire summer and that was great, but I almost never had a chance to use the computer!
Looking forward, as always, to all the posts and answers. It helps to fill the void between actual trips!
Welcome to the new forum. I'm glad you are enjoying looking through the Trip Reports. There is also a lot of useful info in the Archive too. Do note that there is much more than just one page for each section. At the bottom of each page is a little box with numbers in it. Just click on it & select the page number you want.
2 1/2 weeks in May is wonderful. It is my favorite time of year in Ireland. I am going to be traveling in the north and Donegal on my next trip so my 2006 book will have a lot more to choose from in that area. Inishowen is remote but beautiful. The Inishowen 100 is a recommended scenic drive.
I like your yellow rose avatar! Feel free to jump in with questions as the occur.
Welcome aboard. It is good to see everyone changing over (hopefully painlessly!). I agree that reading all the Ireland info here is a good way to stave off the Ireland withdrawal pains. Hope you get to return again soon. And we will look for your trip report when you have the time. Or you can even just post a bit at a time too. All info is welcome
Just a note to tell you that since my first post under this subject I have changed the forum so that everyone must register to post. It is very simple and easy.
This has cut out the SPAM postings and some that were just plain weird. However, if you just want to read all the tips and Q&As no registration is necessary.
