Car hire

For my husband & I's 25th wedding anniversary, we are going to spend two weeks in Ireland in July 2011.  We want to rent a car, put don't have a credit card, only a bank debit/credit card with the mastercard logo on it. Do car rental companies in Ireland let you pay cash to rent the car ? Can we use our bank debit/credit card to reserve the car with ?
Thanks,
Suzy

I believe you are able to hire from some operators without a credit card, provided you purchase the companies Super Collision Damage Waver . But check first with the selected company and get it in writing, to avoid hassle at the collections desk

Suzy,

Some companies will rent to you, while others will not. You will have to contact each one individually. Check with Dan Dooley as I believe they will do the debit card charge. And as Tony says you will have to take the CDW and probably Super CDW insurance from them to do so.
