Realistic Itinerary? Hello again! We're departing next week for our first trip from Oregon to the Emerald Isle! I'm getting very excited. We want to see a lot in 8 days but also want to relax and enjoy an area. We fly into Shannon on 9/26 and depart from Dublin 10/4. We'd like to see Ennis, Galway, Connemara, Dingle, and then head to Cavan (to look up long lost relatives) and then Dublin. Is this reasonable??? We have our first night reserved in Ennis but then we have open B&B vouchers. In Dublin, we're reserved at the Ashling Hotel. Hopefully it's a nice place... Thanks so much for any advice! ~AJ McKenna

Re: Realistic Itinerary? here are some ideas - you don't have much time before you leave, so here goes. Because you are using Vouchers - be sure to have handy the book with all the places that take them.
When looking at miles / distances - figure on averaging 35 mph. Yep - that is what you will average .
A big decision for you will be - how much time do you want to spend in Dublin? Dingle is really out of your way ( look on a map it would be around 3 hrs from Ennis and then 4 or so from dingle back to Galway. It could be done, but then only stay 1 night in Dublin, your night before you fly out.
Either way - I would book your weekends in advance if possible. Dingle / Galway , and Dublin are all very busy on weekends.
Shannon on 9/26 and depart from Dublin 10/4.
here is just my first thoughts on your time frame. 9/26 (fri) Ennis 9/27 (Sat) Galway ( stop at cliffs? burren?) 9/28 (Sun) Galway 9/29 (Mon) Galway / Connemara 9/30 (Tues) Cavcan area 10/1 (Wed) Cavan 10/2 (Thurs)Dublin 10/3 (Fri) Dublin 10/4 (Sat) fly home

Re: Realistic Itinerary? I just realized that from your other post, that the Galway Oyster festival is that first weekend.
I would NOT try to wing it for a B&B anywhere near Galway at that time. Either try to book a place now, or plan on staying outside of town, or choose to do Dingle or further up into Connemara those days.
the Oyster Festival is a pretty big deal.

Thanks So Much Thanks Debbie for your advice! I appreciate it. I would avoid Cavan entirely but my husband is intent on looking up some long lost relatives who may or may not still be there! Your info is very helpful, especially the tip about 35 mph. Thanks again!
With the Galway Oyster Festival on I would suggest perhaps staying farther out in Connemara such as Clifden or Roundstone. Enjoy your trip and let us know how it goes.
