April Itinerary

Hi Michele, I have been having great fun planning our vacation for this april. I have contact several of the B&B you recommended. Everyone was very nice. Most of the confirming will be done after the new year. I just wanted to run our itinerary by you. We are a family of 4 children ages 8/10.

Day 1 arrive in Shannon 7:30am- Rented a car from Dan Dooley. Drive to Rockyview Farmhouse
in Ballyvaugh. Staying there 2 nights. We wanted to go to the Cliffs/Burren/Ailwee Caves

Day three Dive to Ballybunion - Stay at Seashore 1 night. We were hoping to do the cliff walk and go horseback riding.

Day 4 drive to Dingle stay 2 nights. Thought we would just explore and maybe go on the dolphin cruise. If we weren't able to go horseback riding in Ballybunion thought we would do it here.

Day 6 Go to the aqua dome for the day. 1 night Ballyseede Castle.

Day 7/8/9 Killarney area. Thinking about staying at Friars Glen. Wanted to go to the national park/ Go on Gap on Dunloe Tour/ muckrose house. 1 day rent ATV. (found a place in waterville)

Day 10 Back to Shannon - Bunratty Castle banquet

Day 11 fly home

How does this sound?? Too much Too Little. Any suggestions for bad weather?

I was considering skipping Dingle but from what everyone says on your web site, it shouldn't be missed.

Thanks for any help.. I want to make initial contacts before the holidays.

Re: April Itinerary

Hi Mbarnes,

I'm glad that you are having fun planning your trip. Too many people think of it as a chore but the process is half the fun of going on a trip. (At least that's what I think.)

Your itinerary sounds perfect. I know that you have put a lot of thought into it. I will comment below:

Day 1 arrive in Shannon 7:30am- Rented a car from Dan Dooley. Drive to Rockyview Farmhouse
in Ballyvaugh. Staying there 2 nights. We wanted to go to the Cliffs/Burren/Ailwee Caves. Michele's Answer: Very good. If you get a particularly fine day Loop Head is spectacular. Park near the lighthouse and take the walk all around the head (but keep an eye on the kids as there are no retaining walls). You can also go on a dolphin cruise from Kilrush.

Day three Dive to Ballybunion - Stay at Seashore 1 night. We were hoping to do the cliff walk and go horseback riding. Michele's Answer: Good. Take the car ferry across the Shannon. There are also several excellent beaches in Ballybunion. Hope the weather is good.

Day 4 drive to Dingle stay 2 nights. Thought we would just explore and maybe go on the dolphin cruise. If we weren't able to go horseback riding in Ballybunion thought we would do it here. Michele's Answer: Fine. There is plenty to do in Dingle. Don't miss Slea Head Drive and the Blasket Island Center. If you are adventurous and the weather cooperates Connor Pass is a must see.

Day 6 Go to the aqua dome for the day. 1 night Ballyseede Castle. Michele's Answer: Fine. The kids might also enjoy Blennerville Windmill and train as well as Kerry the Kingdom.

Day 7/8/9 Killarney area. Thinking about staying at Friars Glen. Wanted to go to the national park/ Go on Gap on Dunloe Tour/ muckrose house. 1 day rent ATV. (found a place in waterville). Michele's Answer: Sounds just right.

Day 10 Back to Shannon - Bunratty Castle banquet. Michele's Answer: An excellent ending to your trip. Make your banquet reservations in advance also. Be sure to take time to tour Bunratty Castle and the Folk Park. The kids (and adults) will love that.

Day 11 fly home. Michele's Answer: Time to plan another Ireland trip!

Just one note: If you will be in Ireland on Good Friday most things will be closed (including restaurants & pubs) so you should have reservations for dinner at a hotel. Otherwise everything is very well thought out and I think you will have a nice relaxing time in Ireland.

Michele

Re: April Itinerary

Hi there -
Just want to re-affirm Michele's note about Bunratty.
It is a lot of fun, but be sure to get there in plenty of time to see the castle.

Double check the last entry time ( I want to say it is 4pm - and the castle closes at 4:30 ?) so you get there with time to see it.
They have to close it off to get ready for the 5:30 banquet.

On our last trip, we got there 5 min after the last admit. Mom was not happy.

Thanks for feedback

Thanks for the feedback. We are really excited. we just got our passports yesterday. With the holidays approaching I know it will be here before we know it.

Do you Think its too early to make reservations for the Banquet?

Bunratty Banquet Reservations

Hi Mbarnes,

Most places start taking reservations for 2004 after the first of the year. However, you can always just email an inquiry to see what the policy is at the banquet: reservations@shannon-dev.ie

You might want to book the early banquet since the kids may be too tired for the later one.

Michele
