Visa Card Car Insurance Hello Michelle and gang, Will my Visa Card cover my car rental insurance in Ireland? I read some where that it would save me a lot of money. Thanks alot!
"When and where am I covered? This coverage is available on a 24-hour basis, in the United States and most foreign countries. No coverage is provided for motor vehicles rented in Israel, Jamaica, or the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland."
A gold MasterCard will cover you but there are many conditions and you should read the fine print to see if this is right for you. You can read about it here: www.mastercard.com/cardho...rance.html
"Where you're covered: · In general, coverage is accepted worldwide, but there are exceptions. · You may be unable to use this service in Australia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, and New Zealand. Please contact your car rental company before you travel. · Coverage is not available where prohibited by law."
Notice that the terminology says "may be unable to use this service in Ireland". That's because you must get your car rental company to agree to this. Not all do.
So plan ahead and get everything in writing. Take the paperwork with you and be prepared ahead of time. It can save you a lot of money.

credit card info we were told by Mastercard that our platinum card was the only one that was still used for the Insurance in Ireland.
Evidently gold or platinum MasterCard will cover the CDW on a rental car if the company agrees to take it. But it is always essential to check ahead of time. You never know when MasterCard will pull the plug like Visa!
