flowers blooming?

We are so excitied about our trip to Ireland- we will be there March 29-April 6th. Are flowers blooming at that time?

Our current temp is 7 degrees with wind chill -15 degrees- A heat wave compared to last night. :D I'm dreaming about spring- and look forward to spending some of that time on the"Emerald Isle". I know we will see green, and just wondering if we will see other colors as well.

Thank you

Hi mldmv,

Some of the flowers will be blooming; tulips, dafodills and early blooms like that. The trees will be bare (except for evergreens) and you might see brillliant yellow furze blooming on the hillsides. There is always plenty of green and probably a few rainbows. I don't think you will be color deprived!

Pine Trees

Michele -

While driving around in December, we noticed patches of pine trees with brown quills. Was there a drought last year?

Dublin blooming

Hi mldmv,

You are visiting around the same time my wife and I had visited. It does get exciting and Queen Michele's forum with her Royal followers are typically very helpful.

I've attached 2 links (hope they work in the browser)that display a sample of St Steven's green in Dublin during the end of March. The grass is lush green, many flowers, and like Michele said, the trees are bare.

Hi Michele and Gary,

Yes, this forum is very helpful! Gary, thank you for sharing your pictures, they are just beautiful.

Michele, you do a fantastic job, and I appreciate all of your hard work. I know our trip to Ireland will be more enjoyable because of your knowledge.

I'm looking forward to seeing the spring flowers in bloom.

flowers in bloom

I just had to say what a great question.
We are going to the Southeast towards the end of April. Now there is something else to look forward too. Thanks

Re: flowers blooming?

mldmv, There was a rather dry spell last summer. Perhaps that is the cause of the brown pines. Or they might have a pest or blight? I'm not that much of a horticulturist myself. Thanks for your kind words about the forum. As you can tell, for me it is a labor of love. :) It is always nice hearing that it is appreciated!

Mbarnes, At the end of April you should see some of the trees blooming and a lot more flowers. The rhododendrons in Muckross Gardens are the size of houses and should be putting on quite a show.

Gary, Thanks for sharing your photos.

Michele
