First trip to Ireland I am planning a 6 day trip to Ireland on a B&B package deal. (with vouchers)..Our itinerary is as follows and I am curious if this is feasable as far as time to see enough... Friday - Dublin Saturday - Co Clare Sunday - Co Clare Monday - Belfast Tuesday - Co. Louth Wednesday - Dublin
This will be from March 12 - 18 of 2004... Thank you! Janet

Thoughts This itinerary seems to be mostly about driving, rather than maximizing siteseeing opportunities. You won't mind that? Drive times are slow in Ireland.

Sightseeing in Ireland Countryside sight-seeing is mainly what I am interested in. I would like to take in a few castles around Co Clare. I am hoping 2 days there will be sufficient.

Re: First trip to Ireland Hi Janet:
I agree that is a lot of driving. Co Clare to Belfast is a full days drive. I'm guessing a full 7 hours in the car from Ennis not counting stops, longer if you are on the coast. There must be something very interesting for you in Belfast to make that drive. With as little time as you have, I would focus on one general area of the country. Since you are landing and leaving from Dublin, I would suggest the east.
I'm guessing that you've already reserved your rooms in Dublin, especially for the 17th. St. Patrick's Day day is a madhouse in the city and it is unlikely there are any rooms left.
There is lots to see in the east and you can fill your time without spending time driving all the way across the country and back. It may look small, but driving times are much longer than you expect and even on main roads you can't expect to average more than 35 MPH.

First trip to Ireland Well, Our plans seem to change with the wind. But it's fun planning it. We would like to arrive and stay near Galway for a couple of nights, then head up to Co Sligo or Co Mayo for one night. Next, we hope to head for Belfast and stay there for a couple nights. (we want to see Giants Causeway and Glens of Antrim)Then head back towards Limerick via Dublin area for one night. Then plan to stay near Limerick on our last night.
It's gonna be a whirlwind, I know...but I love travelling in a car and seeing the countryside. However, this adjustment seems a little more feasable. What do you think ?
It is still a whirlwind. I am assuming you are now arriving in Shannon? Because if you are arriving in Dublin it is a four hour drive to Galway. Not to be recommended on your first day in the country (unless you arrive from a close destination and jet-lag is not an issue).
Clue us in on your new plans and we will try to tame the "green blur tour".
reply Well, it won't be much of a blur for her, since I am doing all the driving. haha. Yes, we are flying into Shannon now and skipping Dublin alltogether. I figured that around St. Patty's, it might be hectic and there is ALWAYS next time.
You are right about St. Patrick's Day in Dublin. It is a zoo. You probably couldn't even get reservations for anything in the area at this late date. Hope you both enjoy the trip.
