Last Night in Ireland is Good Friday! Please help! My friends and I will be traveling on the west coast of ireland for the first week in April. Our last night in Ireland is good friday and we're heard that the country basically shuts down. Is this true? Any recommendations on things to do? What town we should stay in that night before we fly out of Shannon the next afternoon?

good friday If you stay in the town of Bunratty, (typical for Shannon departure) then you can do some shopping during the day of Good Friday, at Blarney Woolen Mills, across from the Castle. They were open during my travel on Good Friday. Gas the rental car the day before good friday. The folk park will definately be closed. Not sure about Durty Nellies. They were open on the nite before (holy thursday) Take a trip, if you havn't done it yet, to Cliffs of Moehr. Make a reservation at a hotel, as they will provide a restautant for your meals. Your afternoon flight the next day will provide more time for shopping at the airport. That's where I actually bought my Donegal hat.
just some toughts here, not sure if it helps. enjoy your trip -gary
Re: Last Night in Ireland is Good Friday! Hi Heather,
Gary has given you good advice. I agree with him that Bunratty will be a good place to stay for your last night. Make your reservations soon. Most things including pubs and restaurants will be closed. I would suggest making dinner reservations at the Fitzpatrick Bunratty Hotel. The one thing that never closes is scenery. Take a scenic drive. The Cliffs of Moher and Burren would be ideal. If you have already seen that consider Loop Head in west Clare.
