Revised Itinerary

As per the great suggestions from Michele and other forum members, and reading Michele's and many other books, I have changed my itinerary and would love comments and feedback. We are traveling June 15-30 with 3 adults and 2 children, ages 7 & 9.
Here goes latest attempt (attempt number ??):

June 16 & 17- leave Shannon drive to Cliffs of Moher and meander up to Cregg Castle for our first 2 nights. Tour Galway, Burren, etc.

June 18 & 19- Westport and surrounding area staying 2 nights at Glenderan B&B

June 20, 21, & 22-Donegal Town with side trips. Still looking into accommodations, thinking Diamond Lodgings right on the triangle.

June 23, 24, & 25-Ramelton and trips to Fanad and Inishowen, staying in Ramelton.

June 26-Still up in air on this night, either stay on way to Carrick-on-Shannon or drive through. Haven't calculated distances.

June 27-28-Carrick-on-Shannon, river cruise and coarse fishing for husband.

June 29-Stay at Bunratty, do Folk Park and Banquet.

June 30- fly home

Sorry this post is so long, but I want to make our first trip to Ireland memorable for all.

Thanks,
Jennifer

Re: Revised Itinerary

Hi Jennifer,

Your itinerary is looking much better. I will comment below:

June 16 & 17- leave Shannon drive to Cliffs of Moher and meander up to Cregg Castle for our first 2 nights. Tour Galway, Burren, etc.  Michele's Answer: * Fine. However, you might see how you and the kids are reacting to jet-lag before deciding on going to the cliffs on your first day.

June 18 & 19- Westport and surrounding area staying 2 nights at Glenderan B&B. Michele's Answer: * Good. Westport is a great town and well situated for many day trips. One of my favorites is Achill Island. The kids might enjoy a day out at Westport House. If the weather is good you might even get partway up Croagh Patrick. Glenderan wouldn't be my first choice of B&Bs in Westport. But you can tell us how you liked it when you return. Perhaps it has improved.

June 20, 21, & 22-Donegal Town with side trips. Still looking into accommodations, thinking Diamond Lodgings right on the triangle. Michele's Answer: * Fine. Though the triangle is a bit busy.

June 23, 24, & 25-Ramelton and trips to Fanad and Inishowen, staying in Ramelton. Michele's Answer: * I actually like Letterkenny as a base but perhaps you are staying somewhere special in Ramelton.

June 26-Still up in air on this night, either stay on way to Carrick-on-Shannon or drive through. Haven't calculated distances. Michele's Answer: * As I mentioned before Enniskillen is a great area. On your way there you could stop outside Omagh to visit either the Ulster American Folk Park or the Ulster History Park. The adults and the kids would enjoy either one. And the farmhouse in my book, which is several miles from Enniskillen, might be an enjoyable stay for all.

June 27-28-Carrick-on-Shannon, river cruise and coarse fishing for husband. Michele's Answer: * Fun!

June 29-Stay at Bunratty, do Folk Park and Banquet. Michele's Answer: * Nice ending to a nice trip.

I think that this itinerary is it!

Michele

Revised Itinerary

Michele~
Thanks for the advice, I think I will book a night at the farmhouse outside of Enniskillen. I definitely want to see the Ulster American Folk Park!

Westport

I recommend Seapoint House B&B just out of Westport.

Hi Michele,

I could be mistaken, but I recall hearing on the news that the Ulster History Park closed recently. I could be wrong about that, but I'll check.

Here you go:

The Folk Park is still open though.

Thanks!

Hi Darren,

Thanks very much for the update on the Ulster History Park. I have sent an email to the Omagh District Council to see if they are now closed or will hang on for a while. What a pity! It was an excellent facility that was very well done and informative. I will never forget it. I was there on 9-11.

Michele
