Asking for advice yet again

We are still waiting on some last minute details before we can really finalize any of these B&Bs. But so far here is what we are looking at and PLEASE, anyone who has any suggestions, comments, review etc... feel free to let me know.

Galway: Achill Lodge in Salthill
Sligo: Carbury House
Belfast(Crumlin): Keef Halla
Drogheda: possibly Tullyesker-- but this is up in the air.
- We are heading to Limerick from Belfast and thought maybe Co. Louth would be a good stopping point. But we are open to any suggestions. If you think we can possibly travel farther, or you think we couldn't possibly get to Louth in one day... let me know.

Limerick: Jurys Hotel

Sligo: Carbury House. Michele's Answer: Very nice. It is in my book for 2004.

Belfast(Crumlin): Keef Halla. Michele's Answer: I haven't inspected it yet but have heard great feedback from many people.

They won an Emerald Award for Best Irish Breakfast 2004: www.irelandyes.com/Awards.html See if the large room with sofa is available. And tell Cepta and Eobhain hello from me.

Limerick: Jurys Hotel. Michele's Answer: Fine. I'm curious as to why Limerick and not Bunratty?

I don't know if you've gone yet but thought you might like to know, Jurys Hotel has been sold withing the last month or so.

For peace of mind, you may want to confirm your reservation, and find out if the hotel will have changed it's name by the time it comes for you to arrive.

Personally I'd stay in the Clarion though. I've never been a fan of Jurys, they ahve had terrible publicity the last few years.

Hi Clodagh,

Thanks for the head's up on Jurys. I actually prefer B&Bs and guesthouses most of the time. They have more character (and characters!) than the chain hotels.

We've decided on Ashgrove House in Bunratty.

Due to alot of negative reviews I've heard about Jury's.

Plus, the woman who runs Ashgrove House just sound so fun and heartwarming.

B&Bs

Hi Shawn!

Just wanted to let you know that my husband and I stayed at both Carbury House and Ashgrove last year. Martha Davey in Sligo was lovely. Her home is purpose built, so the rooms are huge and airy. (My only complaint was that I like to take a few minutes to read when I go to bed, and there wasn't enough lighting.) That said (and I am pretty picky) we loved the place and the tabby cat. (Her jam was homemade and terrific!)

Ashgrove House was smaller and cozier. I think Frank and Sheila were a hoot. She greeted us with Irish Coffees in her huge new room, and we chatted with some other guests from Sweden. (Unfortunately, several of us showed up at the same time, so she was a bit busy!) Frank was busy painting the trim of the house, so my husband hung around outside with him for awhile. Theirs was the only bathroom that had both tissues and a washcloth! We had our own entrance from outside, which I really liked. Although the rooms were not large, we were quite comfortable. (After all the drinks we had at Mac's that night, I would have slept like a stone anywhere!)

Speaking of Mac's, which is the pub in Bunratty Folk Park, we much prefer it over Durty Nellies. Not nearly so touristy, and a great fireplace. It had local music, but you had to be very near them to hear.
