8 Day Itinerary

Hi Michelle!

Can you give me your opinion on this late March/early April itinerary?

Day 1  Arrive Shannon & drive to Galway for 2 nights.  Explore town, staying close the 1st day.

Day 2 Tour Connemara, Kylemore Abbey and Clifden.  Is it possible to see the village of Cong on this day, or is it too out of the way?

Day 3 Cliffs of Moher and start driving south.  I need a recomendation on where to stay for 1 night.  In Ennis or Adare?  Nice B&B? Been to Bunratty Castle and Mary Browne's B&B......

Days 4,5,6,7 Dingle.  I've been here before.  My ancestors are from Emlagh and I have a cousin in Castlegregory.  I truly love this place!  Cill Bhreac or Emlagh Lodge?

Day 8 Drive towards Shannon airport and stay 1 night at Dromoland Castle

Thanks for your time!

Jane

Jane,

Your itinerary looks great. My day to day comments are below:

Day 1  Arrive Shannon & drive to Galway for 2 nights.  Explore town, staying close the 1st day. Michele's Answer: Fine.

Day 2 Tour Connemara, Kylemore Abbey and Clifden.  Is it possible to see the village of Cong on this day, or is it too out of the way? Michele's Answer: It is possible to visit Cong if you plan your route carefully. You can do a big circle from Galway and back again. You might want to make your decision based on weather and the time you have left.

Day 3 Cliffs of Moher and start driving south.  I need a recomendation on where to stay for 1 night.  In Ennis or Adare?  Nice B&B? Been to Bunratty Castle and Mary Browne's B&B...... Michele's Answer: How about something entirely different? If you meander down the coast of Clare you could also see Loop Head (wonderful cliffs and walks) and spend a night in Kilrush. Next day you could ferry across the Shannon and continue your journey to Dingle.

Days 4,5,6,7 Dingle.  I've been here before.  My ancestors are from Emlagh and I have a cousin in Castlegregory.  I truly love this place!  Cill Bhreac or Emlagh Lodge? Michele's Answer: How lovely to have so long in Dingle! I have heard mixed reviews of Cill Bhreac but have not personally visited it myself yet. Emlagh Lodge was nice. I also have some suggestions on my "Lodgings" page.

Day 8 Drive towards Shannon airport and stay 1 night at Dromoland Castle Michele's Answer: Nice and very posh!

If you have a cousin in Castlegregory and would like to stay close, The Shores Country House B&B near Castlegregory is the place. My favorite in Ireland (oe anywhere for that matter). Annette is a wonderful host. http://theshorescountryhouse.com/ I believe Michele has visited there also. Great view, great rooms.

Jane,

Bill is right that The Shores Country House is outstanding. If you received my 9-5-05 Newsletter you got a complete review of that B&B. It also won an Emerald Award for Favorite New Bed-and-Breakfast (go to my awards page).
