Belfast to Shannon

Hi Michele and Friends,

Using Mousehunter's suggestions, I found some cheaper fare for my upcoming trip from Houston to Ireland, $683. Only problem is that it has me flying in and out of Shannon. I had wanted to fly back from Dublin. So anyways, I will have to drive back from Belfast to Shannon. How long will it take? Will it be a bear of a drive? Do I take the route Michelin suggests, going down to Dublin and then west to Shannon?

Thanks!!!

Ande

drive...

We drove from Belfast to Bunratty (10 minutes from Shannon) in one day... took 5.5 - 6 hours. And that was going through small towns and such. It was a very nice drive, beautiful. You can email me and I can tell you the roads we took. sdefibaugh@sbcglobal.net

In just 7 days we put close to 1200 miles on the car, it had only like 15 when we got it brand new. :)

Re: Belfast to Shannon

Hi Ande,

The last time I did the drive from Shannon to Belfast (just the opposite of you) it took around six hours. I took the main roads. So it looks like around the same time on the main roads or alternatives.

roads

We took the A1 out of Belfast towards Newry, which turned into the N1 towards Dundalk then in Dundalk we took N52 into Mullingar, Tullamore, Birr and Nenagh... outside of Nenagh we took the N7 and that took us right into Limerick then hopped on the N18 which takes you straight past Bunratty and to the Shannon airport.

Not sure if these are considered "main" roads or not.. but we wanted to avoid any Dublin or Dublin overflow traffic since we were heading to Limerick on the day before St. Patty's. But we traveled around 50-70mph for the most of it, having to slow for a funeral, city centres and for winding roads. Love it!!!
