small cars

We're wanting to rent a small car since we've heard a lot about narrow roads, but my husband is 6'4" and large, and so we also want to fit! Has anyone driven the Nissan Micra (the type car listed as "Economy" class by many rental agencies)? How roomy are these Economy cars?

Small Cars

Hi theboguys,

My husband is 6'2" and he hasn't had any problems when we rent small cars in Ireland. I suggest that when you get to the car rental desk on arrival that you ask which car would be best for your husband's height. It is not unheard of to get an upgrade in a case like that.

WE rented an economy size from Hertz and ended up with a Peugeot 307. 4 doors and REALLY roomy. My mom had so much floor space, she kept EVERYTHING there. 2 bags (purse size), a jacket and a camera. And there was still a lot of room. They may look small but they overcompensate on the inside. Also, it was a hatchback and looked like it had a small trunk, but we fit 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-on luggages in there. We were amazed.

I've driven the Nissan Micra a number of times, but not since they changed the style last year. I'm only 5'11" so I have never had a problem, but I always drive small cars. Roomy means different things to different people. The only car I didn't like was the VW subcompact that we had last November. It has escaped me what I didn't like about it, but I remember complaining about it. We decided to try to avoid that in the future.

WOW you lucked out getting the Peugeot 307. The 206 is the typical small car.

The Micra is a very decent small car. My brother is 6ft 8 and was given a Micra last year. After the initial hysterical laughter he said it has still been one of the best cars he has rented when he comes home, and that's even up against a Renault Lauguna and a Ford Focus. By the way, he HATED the Laguna, almost despised it actually.

The only problem with the Micra was when he went to lock the passenger side door he almost put his hand through the window as he leaned over from the drivers side. He's used to his huge Jeep which is much wider.

The new Ford Fiests is also a small car but very roomy and a dream to drive.

The new Micra is somewhat comical to look at though and it's not very "manly". The Fiesta is very unisex.
