Early arrival AT Shannon

Michele, We will be arriving at about 7:30am when we land in Shannon. We are picking up the car at Dan Dooley's. Where do you suggest for Our 1st Meal in Ireland. Everyone is a big Breakfast Fan and my kids wont make it to far. I think I remember someone posting about Mother Hubbards in Kilfenora.

I'ld appreciate your suggestions.

Breakfast

Hi Mary Ellen,

Nearby the airport is Fitzpatrick's Bunratty Hotel. It is next to Bunratty Castle. They have great food there. Though I haven't sampled their breakfast their dinners are wonderful. So I'm sure breakfast must be equally nice.

Re: Breakfast

The Oakwood Arms Hotel is just on the edge of Shannon town, you'll pass it on your way out. I have had their breakfast several times and can heartily recommend it. Plus, they're very child friendly.

Re: Thanks

Hi Clodagh,

Thanks for your recommendation of the Oakwood Arms. It has been many years since I have eaten there however I did inspect their rooms a few years ago and it they looked lovely. Glad to hear that the food is good too.

Mother Hubbards

Mary Ellen -

Your kids would love Mother Hubbards. It's an old time truck stop. My daughter insists on stopping there every time we drive by....

They do have other meals besides breakfast. It's a great stop for a pick me up on the way to Galway...

enjoy your trip!

eyps!

Directions to Mother Hubbards

Sounds indeed like something the kids would like. Can you give me directions from Shannon?

Thanks for the feedback

Mary Ellen -

I'll have directions for you on Monday, I'm at work right now and believe it or not I don't have a map of Ireland at my desk....

Have a great weekend!

bunratty hotel

just speaking from a limited experience - wanted to add my two cents. We did the same thing, getting there too early and had no place to go. We drove into Bunratty and the Bunratty Hotel was the only place to eat...wow, was i disappointed. I didn't know what to expect but thought i would gain wait on vacation. After the breakfast buffet there i was convinced i may lose weight in Ireland. It was terrible. I didn't eat any other food there so i'm sure the dinner may be good but the breakfast left MUCH to be desired.
I'm happy to say i loved the rest of my meals in Ireland....

Early food

The last time we flew into Shannon, we just went upstairs in the airport for a snack before we hit the road. They have a pretty good assortment of food, but we just had tea/coffee and pastries since we had that delicious breakfast:lol on the plane. Then we look for a nice place for lunch! The prices are reasonable, too, I think. (We paid 3.40E for a horrible cup of coffee last month at Charles De Gaulle airport!)

Crummy Breakfast

Hi stannseniors,

As I recall, you ate breakfast at the Bunratty Castle Hotel. Fitzpatrick's is across the street and has good food. I have never in - 30 years - had a bad meal there.

Re: Crummy Breakfast

stannseniors,

At least your other meals were good. Next time try Fitzpatricks. They do a mean salmon and filet steak. My husband is dreaming of the steak now.

Directions to Mother Hubbards

Mary Ellen -

Sorry it took me so long, Mother Hubbards is in Kilcolgan. if you take the N18 from Shannon Airport toward Galway, you can't miss Mother Hubbards, be on the look out after you pass Ardrahan (on the "Highway" N18) or if you're driving through the Burren, look for Knivarra on the N67.

You're kids will appreciate the stop after a about an hour drive, and there are a few shops nearby to keep the adults happy!!!
