O'Scannlain-Hertz Car Rental Hi, I was wondering if anybody had any recent experience renting a car through O'Scannlain (with Hertz). I'm hesitant since you have to pay up front. Somebody on this forum once recommended not doing this since you are stuck in the event they don't have a car ready for you, etc.
I believe Bill did have a good experience with them. Anybody else?
Thanks. Ande

O'Scannlain Ande, We rented through O'Scannlain last year and had no problems whatsoever. And we're booked through them for our car for this year's trip next month. Once you prepay they send you a voucher that you present to Hertz. The only extra we paid was for an additional driver. For some reason that can't be prepaid. And they do allow you to waive the CDW with Mastercard. I hadn't thought about the possibility of a car not being available. We've always gone in October or May so the demand for cars is not as high. I suppose you could call O'Scannlain and ask them what the procedure would be if for some reason Hertz didn't have a car. I do like the fact that O'Scannlain is US based with an 800 number. Martha
My thanks to Martha for answering your question. I haven't personally used O'Scannlain because I prefer not to pre-pay my car rental since my travel dates can change at the last moment. So I always book with a company that does not require a pre-payment. I always suggest that you read all the fine print and be comfortable with it before booking. I rented from Hertz a couple of years ago and was pleased with the car and service. The last few years it has been Budget. I just couldn't beat a two week rental for 188 euro.

Cars Hi Michele and Martha, thanks for your responses. The best deals I've found so far are with O'Scannlain and Dan Dooley. As you say, I now need to go over all the fine print and make a decision. I tried Budget, but they are a lot more for my itinerary and needs (automatic transmission).
Yes, rates can vary widely depending on time of year and type of car. Budget generally comes through for me with the lowest price for a manual tiny car. Once you need an automatic or go into the season prices go up. I hope you find just the right car company with rock bottom rates.

Erik the Red lived in Iceland. Erik went to a man from the T I used them in March and was VERY happy.
I have at least 2 friends who have booked with them for August, and they were very happy with the prices they got. I have 2 more friends who will book with them.
their prices are wonderful!

O'Scannlain We used them in October without any problems. Their rate was by far the best of all the companies we looked at. However, their location is not in the airport building but out further in the parking lot, with a shuttle to take you there. Once at the office, we had to wait a while as there was a bit of a line, and then my husband decided to take a higher class manual than the smaller automatic we had reserved for the same price. We would definitely use them again! (Plus we got a tee-shirt!)
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate your taking the time to let us know how the car rental went. As always, I recommend shopping around, comparing the same type car and extras and then taking your best rate. I have found over the years that most car rental companies and brokers provide a similar product. The determining factor is usually price!

Re: O'Scannlain-Hertz Car Rental Hi Ande:
I used them this May and they were fine. Make sure you check the tires. The two compact manual transmission cars they had on the lot both had tires with very little tred, I complained and they eventually ended up giving me a larger car which worked out well.
Welcome back from Ireland! I hope you had a good trip and the sun shined on you and the gang. Thanks for your additional comments on O'Scannlain. Yes, it is important to always check the car before taking it. Since tires are not included under most insurance coverage that is a must to check on. That is one thing that we did even at 10pm in the pouring rain last time. There are some things you just can't skip.

Re: O'Scannlain-Hertz Car Rental We got some sun, some wind and some rain. The trip went fine and was very different from traveling with just my wife. I'm not sure I would do such a thing frequently, but we did some things that I normally wouldn't do. We heard lots of music this time which was good.
I'm glad you had a good but different trip. I know what you mean. We took some good friends to Ireland last year for 2 weeks of a 4 week trip. I didn't get a lot of work done the first 2 weeks (and there were a few B&Bs I was dying to stop at but couldn't). I also made reservations everywhere, which is not my usual style. But I wanted them to see the best of Ireland and have a firm itinerary. It's not something I do often. We had fun with our friends but it was different, as you say.
It's great that you heard a lot of good music. Did you get your bodhran in Roundstone? Let us know when the trip report in online. Can't wait for all the juicy details!!
