Help: need advice

We are planning a trip to Ireland in July 2005. There will be 17 of us. We will be staying in Adair. Our accommodations and flights have been taken care of. We are not planning to try to do everything together, we will be splitting up some of the time, due to different interests. My concern is My 2 children ages 4&6, we need to entertain them. And our other concern is where to rent a car? We will be flying into Shannon, and we only need to accommodate our family of 4 for our car. Some of the prices I have checked seem to be very high, but maybe it is just expensive to rent a car there. Any suggestions on what is in the area for sightseeing, or within 1-1/12 hours travel from Adair?

Re: Help: need advice

We rented from Dan Dooley and got a super rate but i understand Enterprise is trying to get some US business and might offer a good rate....check out their sites:

Dan Dooley:

I've noticed many people on here finding good rates with other may want to google "Ireland car rental" and try a bunch. If you use a credit card that has the insurance already on it - it will save you. You have to check with your card company as well as the rental company. We got a car for about $310 for 10 days back in 2003---with the card covering the insurance.

We saw lots of kids at the pubs - they are real family oriented places.

more rental information

You might want to also check out .
We're renting in June and flying into Shannon. According to my husband, we got a good rate on a car. We're staying in South County Limerick and doing day trips from there. Renting a self catering cottage.
Here is a quick look at our itinerary...
Day 1: Take a quick nap at the cottage to try and shake jet lag (Mostly for my husband since he can't sleep on a plane). Explore Bunratty folk park. Attend Bunratty Traditional Irish night.
Day 2: Visit Rock of Cashel. Explore the Mitchelltown cave.
Day 3: Visit the Cliffs of Moher. Find Father Ted's house (the one from the tv show). Visit the Burren Center, possibly the Aillwee Caves again.
Day 4: Go on boat ride out of Kilrush and see dolphins. Visit Kilkee and walk on the beach. Drive down to Loop Head and breathe the ocean air.
Day 5: Go to County Cork and explore Blarney grounds. Kiss the rock. (We've done it before) The grounds are gorgeous! Ride a double decker bus and tour the city.
Day 6: Leave our cottage. Head to County Kerry and do the Ring of Kerry. Stopping at the Skelligs and taking a cruise around the islands. B&B that night near Killarney.
Day 7: Take a walking tour of Killarney that Yesiree is providing! Drive near Tralee & visit the Jean Johnston boat yard. (I forget the name of the town at the moment - actually itinerary is at the office).
Also drive through Ballybunion and stop in as many towns as possible. Including Adare. Staying at a B&B near Bunratty Castle.
Day 8: Fly home.

I hope you got a couple ideas on things you can do in the area. We've explored so many different forums and virtual tourist sites. As well as going through our photo album from last time and wanting to revisit a few places. Good luck!

Re: Help: need advice

My "Car Rental" page will help walk you through the car rental maze and familiarize you with what is happening in Ireland as well as filling you in on car rental lingo. Take a look and then shop around. Also try Kemwel from that page to see what they are offering.

No one car company fulfills the needs of every person. Some have low rates on small manual cars. Others give better rates on larger automatic cars. That is why it is very important to shop around, compare the same type car, insurance, etc. at each company and then take your best rate.

Happy hunting!

Help:need advice

I have rented cars from Hertz through this travel agency:

I was and am EXTREMELY happy with them. You pay in dollars so you know exactly what it costs beforehand.

they are very helpful and you can do everything on e-mail or talk with them in person.

Car Rentals

Thanks BallyKPat for your recommendation. As a side note, I have actually used the booking engine on my car rental page the last few times I have been in Ireland. I got my lowest rate (in US dollars) from Kemwel. Since Kemwel is a broker my actual car rental was from Europcar. Everything went smooth as can be, I got a nice car, customer service was excellent and I was very happy with the whole experience. But do check around for the lowest rates. I always do!

Re: Car Rentals

Thank you all who replied to my question about renting a car, I really do appreciate it.:) :) :)
Does anyone have suggestions on what to do around adare. Something that will be of interest for children. There are some things I have found, but it would be good to see what others suggest. We also don't mind driving a reasonable distance away, if it is a worthwhile day trip.
