Just wanted to thank Michele, Bit, and all "The Regulars" for their input on our recent trip to Ireland. We had a fabulous time!
I especially wanted to thank Michele and Bit for suggesting that we contact Tim Campbell at the St. Patrick's Centre in Downpatrick. I had a few questions for him concerning "The Young Ambassador's Program" so asked if we could speak to him briefly. Well, he came right out and met with us, chatted and was a most congenial and charming host. Then he decided that he wanted to take us on a private tour of the new Peace Garden and after that walked us up to the Cathedral to see St. Patrick's grave, etc. He spent more than an hour of his day with us! What a warm and friendly man, and the best Ambassador for Northern Ireland, himself! We will continue to be in contact with him. I don't think I would have thought to ask to speak to him if I hadn't been encouraged by you two, and I'm so glad I did. Bit, he says he is looking forward to your visit in June!
For everyone else, I posted a very short trip description on the "Trip Reports" page but included some links to longer descriptions and four videos that we posted if you want to SEE our trip.
Thanks to you all, I have four young ladies who are anxious to go back to Ireland, so I'm sure I'll be enlisting your help again as we plan future trips.
I will be seeing Dr. Tim sooner than June. He will be here in Tucson next Tuesday evening and I am hosting a dinner for him. I often refer to him as Northern Ireland's Ambassador of Goodwill. Everyone who walks away from even the most casual of encounters with him is smitten.
From reading your blog, you all had a wonderful and blessed experience. May God smile on you for the opportunities you afforded those girls. They now have memories to last their lifetime.
Yes, we were all smitten with him! :) Give him our best when you see him next week (Tucson is so close I'm tempted to hop on over there and join you!). Be sure and tell him that the girls he spent so much time with are already planning their return to his area. It may take us awhile to raise the cash, but I think they'll be back someday.
Thanks again, Bit, for all of your advice. You're the best!
Welcome back! Your trip report and videos are delightful. Thanks for sharing them with us. We were all delighted to help with your trip. Now you know where to come for help with your next trip too. The girls you were traveling with looked like they were having a wonderful time.
Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. Thank you for taking the time to share. Reading about everyone's adventures is making me antsy for June to get here, so we can get back to Eire!
We met Tim at Milwaukee Irish Fest in 2009 and were able to interview him for our podcast (http://ow.ly/4hISy). He was very accommodating to sit down with us. We know he was very, very busy during the festival. When we're in Downpatrick in June, we're going to visit the St. Patrick's Centre. Really looking forward to finally seeing it!
