Where to stay in Dublin

Welcome to my forum. Since you only have one day to do Dublin justice and also want to attend the theater, you should plan on staying in the city center. You will have an early departure for the airport. Perhaps the best plan is to order a taxi the night before to meet you at the appointed time in the morning at your hotel. If you are getting a transatlantic flight check-in is 3 hours prior to departure.

I enjoyed my stay at O'Neill's Victorian Pub, right near Trinity College. It's walking distance to Grafton Street, with big rooms (high Victorian ceilings). It is above a pub and has a train nearby, so there is noise. However, it's reasonably priced and well located. There is another O'Neill's, so make sure you've got the right one.

We stayed at O'Neills Townhouse (http://www.oneills-dublin.com/) as well. As long as they don't put you in the room at the top of the entry stairs on the first landing (across from the little sitting room). That room is weird, long, and very noisy when the pub is open...

We had to stay in that room on our first of three nights there. On the second and third nights, we got moved up to a room on the third level on the corner that has windows on two sides of the room and had a fabulous cross-breeze (it was near 80 degrees in Dublin when we were there in early June). That was a great room, and I'd stay there again if I could guarantee I'd get that room!

The location was fantastic, and we could walk anywhere that we wanted to go in downtown Dublin. And, for the price, we couldn't have done better on a holiday weekend.

O'Neills looks great. I feel there would be more atmosphere there than in a hotel and I'm sure my boys would enjoy that! It's also well priced. I appreciate the information about the location of the rooms. Thank you Green Dragon and Engaging Kate for this lead; I'll definitely be following up.
