Welcome to my forum. With such a large group you may have to think of renting two adjacent self-catering houses. In that case you should be looking not for individual houses but for a cluster.
Do the houses have to be on the coast with views of the water? I've stayed at Limepark near Armoy and would recommend them. Although the cottages are well placed for Co. Antrim, they are inland a bit so no ocean views. See my self-catering page for more info.
You can also go to the Northern Ireland tourist site and do a search for accommodations. Just click on "Accommodations" near the top of the page and input your requirements for the listings.
Now, when you say "north coast" I'm thinking of No. Ireland and County Antrim. But perhaps you mean Co. Londonderry or Co. Donegal?
If you are looking for something on the Antrim Coast side and would like something very unique, another option (since it is difficult to find one, single self-catering accommodation for 10 people) is the Blackhead Lightkeeper's houses from the Irish Landmark Trust (http://www.irishlandmark.com/RestoredProperties.aspx). There are two houses - one sleeps 5 and the other 7, so you could have 4 in one and 6 in the other. They are right on the cliffs of the coast and very near each other.

Thanks Michele for starting us off - we would prefer to stay together as that is all part of the fun & this is why we are starting to look early. Maybe we will get lucky
Thanks Pat
If I were traveling with a large group, I think I would like to rent a castle like this - live like aristocrats for a week or so!
Michele,
Yes, it looks like the house at Blackhead is perched right at the edge of the cliff, but it's not really as close is it appears in that photo. It's close...but you couldn't walk out the door in a drowsy stupor in the morning and fall into the ocean.
If it is the Antrim coast you are pointed towards, I would highly recommend Crockatinney. I have stayed in their guesthouse and toured the self-catering cottages. They are well appointed and offer fabulous views of the sea. Each will sleep up to five people. Tony has provided you the link in his post.
I would also suggest you look at:
Willow Farmhouse just outside of Letterkenny. It will sleep ten but one couple will have twin beds. It is close to Glenveigh and a great golf course, if those things are important to you.
Drumahalla House is on Lough Swilly. The main House will sleep 11 and is quite reasonably priced, especially when splitting the cost amongst 5 couples.
Either would be a good location for exploring the North of Ireland, as they are well located for exploring the North Coast of the six counties area and Donegal.
Great suggestions from everyone. However, it would really help to know what area of Ireland you are looking at. Also, does it have to be by the water and/or coast?
We would like to be close to the Antrim or Londonderry coast if possible but.it looks as if we might have to be more flexible as accommodation fir 10 in one house seems limited. Thanks to all who have helped us.
Phyllis O'Donnell has a self-catering near Buncrana, Swilly View. It might be a bit big for you, as it has 8 bedrooms. It is very reasonable though and has great views. They have two other properties, as well, Aileach View and Crislamore.
Aileach View is the smallest of the three with 6 bedrooms. Being that close to Buncrana, you can grab a car ferry over to the North Derry coast and explore the Giant's Causeway and the Antrim area quite handily. Derry is only five - ten minutes away by car from Aileach View. Letterkenny, Co Donegal was a little further out about thirty minutes, maybe. The Inishowen peninsula is just right outside the drive. It is a truly gorgeous area.
I see that your research has led you to the same conclusion that we all told you about initially. As we mentioned finding that large a house is a problem. I recommend Limepark in Armoy. They have a cluster of cottages and you could rent two right next door to each other. It is a good spot for the Antrim coast, Glenarrif, etc. Send Melanie an email tellling her what you need and she will help you figure it out. Tell her Michele recommended you stay there.
I think that "Dark Horse" and "Poet's Corner" cottages would do the trick for you and your family. But do ask Melanie for her suggestions.
Looks like Bit and I were both posting at the same time. That gives you more options. I hope you find exactly what you are looking for. Let us know if you have any other questions.
