Checking in from Ireland!

Just a quick note to let you know that we have had a great time here and it went by so fast...can't believe there are only 2 days left. We are enjoying our favorite Irish town Kenmare. Good music in Foleys tonight. Just got my free wi-Fi working today at Virginia's Guesthouse. Will fill you in after we get back on all the details! Dan

Dan,

Give my regards to Kenmare! My favorite small Irish town too. Try the sticky toffee pudding at Foley's. Only two days left? Time to start planning another trip.

Thanks for checking in. Have a safe journey home. We look forward to your trip report when time allows.

Michele

P.S. I know the free WiFi codes for half the town! I can just sit in the car and surf the net.

Dan --

Was thinking of you briefly last week --

Once, as we were entering Millstreet for our Meeting with Sean Radley,

Once, as I drove past Murphy's Pub in Castlemaine,

Once, as we ate lunch at Murphy's in Dingle --

And, yet AGAIN, as we were ordering cones from Murphy's Ice Cream shop -- in SPITE of the cold and rain!!!!  biggrin biggrin

Safe travels.  Can't wait to hear how your research went.

Bob

murphy: I'm glad you are having a fun Irish time! We are headed to Kenmare for the first time on our 2nd trip to Ireland in September. Look forward to your trip report. Where is Foley's where you heard the great music? Is that in Kenmare, or a daytrip from Kenmare? I'm curious which night of the week Foley's has music?

Melissa,

Foley's is right in Kenmare town. When the music is on depends on time of year. You can always email them and find out.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Beara gets my vote hands down over Dingle Pen. & ROK. Healy Pass is awesome, but the north side from Dursey back to Kenmare is thee most stunning scenery that I have seen in Ireland!

Heading home on Sun. Will torment you all with a trip report starting next week!

murphy: I'm looking forward to your trip report! I'm delighted to hear you loved the Beara peninsula. We loved the Dingle peninsula on our first trip...and on our upcoming September trip we are going to stay in Kenmare and hopefully see both the Iveragh peninsula and the Beara peninsula for the first time, if the weather cooperates. smile Have a good trip home, rest up, and we'll be waiting to hear your Irish tales!

Murphy,

Isn't Beara Peninsula the best? We just love it there! And that drive over Healy Pass is beyond description... Our favorite part of the drive around Beara was the part between Ballidonegan and Eyeries - wild and stunning scenery.

Did you make the trek out to Dursey on the cable car? It was being repaired when we were last there, so we didn't go out, but I'd like to do it one day - just to say I did!

Can't wait to hear your trip report when you get settled...

Beara is great. Gleninchiquin and its waterfall, Ardgroom stone circle is worth the walk through the cow pasture and over the stiles. Try the Rainbow Restaurant in Glengariff. Go to Kenmare's stone circle at 8am or so to avoid people and you will get a wonderful peaceful feeling in it.

Gleninchaquin is, indeed, fabulous! One day, we'll get back there when the sun is shining (it took us four attempts before we managed it at the Cliffs of Moher!)... Would like some sunny (or at least partly sunny) photos from Healy Pass as well.

There's always next trip... biggrin

Here's a photo of crossing the border from Cork to Kerry just after Healy Pass.

I lucked out with the weather that day! If you look real hard you can see Josie's Restaurant down there by the lake.
