Easter in Dublin for a Solo Woman

Michele,

What a wonderful website you have here!

I am a woman in my late twenties planning a last-minute solo trip to Dublin for Easter (April 23 - April 28). This will be my first time to Ireland and Dublin is going to be my base. Do you recommend any day trips to other parts of the country? Any recommendations for Dublin and for Easter? I'm not really interested in shopping, but really enjoy walking around, people watching, historical sight-seeing, and, of course, a pint or two! While I'm not trying to spend inordinate amounts of money, I've set enough aside for this trip to enjoy myself.

Also, any recommendation for the area of the city I should stay in? Should I consider a B&B as opposed to a hotel? Tourist traps don't thrill me, but I don't want to get too far on the outskirts because I'm 1) traveling alone and 2) on foot, so I'm thinking maybe it would be best to stay in a more touristy area?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Katie

Katie,

Thanks for your comments about my forum! I've moved your post here for ease of use.

For the area of Dublin you want to be in hotels are your best option. B&Bs tend to be in the burbs. You need to look in the Dublin 2 area. Take a look at my Lodgings page: Some places I would recommend are:

Brooks Hotel

The O'Callaghan Group

Buswell's

This website will help you with Dublin sightseeing: www.visitdublin.com

The two best tours from Dublin into the countryside are:

1. Wicklow: I like the ones that include Powerscourt and Glendalough

2. Newgrange

There are many other tours to various places: http://www.railtoursireland.com/

Welcome Katie,

Katie welcome,

We are taking the Mary Gibbons tour to Newgrange.(from Dublin) You can't get much more historic. The hop on hop off bus will get you around Dublin to other sites.(Some of them free) We plan to visit the Brazen head pub (oldest pub in Ireland) Dublin again historic. (and you can get a pint or two) LOL There are several day tours that leave from Dublin, it's up to you how much you wish to travel and how much you want to spend.

Railtours are operating Good Friday and Easter Monday as normal and I would be tempted to consider perhaps their Giants Causeway tour on Good Friday whilst lots of things (including Pubs and many shops) are closed in Dublin.
